All about Woburn Abbey

With its iconic location in Bedfordshire surrounded by stunning scenery, and set in 3000 acres of deer park, the luxurious Woburn Abbey is a wonderful and romantic wedding venue.

Combing heritage, grandeur and elegance, the Woburn estate offers three very different and distinctive venues, ensuring every wedding celebration is bespoke to the bride and groom.  The Woburn Hotel, The Safari Lodge at Woburn Safari Park or The Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey are each enchanting and magical in their own way.

For those looking to have a small, traditional country wedding, The Woburn Hotel is perfect.  Intimate civil ceremonies typically take place in The Covent Garden Room at the hotel, or alternatively for a slightly larger group, The Canaletto Suite; each exquisitely decorated with crystal chandeliers and wall lights, ornate gold mirrors, artwork adorning the walls and fabulous drape curtains framing the windows.

Guests can sip champagne in the summerhouse and private garden during the reception, both beautiful backdrops for photography too.  For the wedding breakfast, The Red Room with its dramatic décor is a formal dining room with grand piano, making it memorable for any wedding celebration, while The Canaletto Suite provides couples with a classic country wedding setting.  Renowned for its cuisine, the hotel’s award-winning Executive Chef always creates mouth-watering and tempting menus, individual for each couple.

For a wedding with a difference The Safari Lodge at Woburn Safari Park is ideal, with the location providing a fun and informal atmosphere.  The lodge itself is a wooden frame with lots of oversized windows allowing guests to thoroughly enjoy the views of ‘Swan Lake’, the rugged landscape and its 80 species of wild animals.  With large terraces, BBQs and buffets work well for an alternative wedding breakfast.  A safari drive and swan boat rides on the lake can also be arranged, ensuring the excitement and thrill of this rare wedding venue continues through the day and night.

The Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey, with its own private gardens overlooking the Camellia House Lake, offers a majestic setting for stylish and elegant wedding.  Originally an orangery, this splendid building, which boasts a number of full height arched windows to the front and decorative garden statues, dates back to 1789.  Internally, the grand interior is breathtaking with a striking roman alter, marble pillars, ancient artwork on the walls, antique furniture and incredible floral displays.  The ambiance is calm, tranquil and seems to instantly transport you back in time.

There are two smaller adjoining rooms at The Sculpture Gallery, The Lantern Room and The Long Harness Room, which are usually used as additional reception room, allowing guests the chance to sit in a quiet space and catch up with family and friends.

As the night draws in, couples and their guests can retire to one of the 47 luxury en suite bedrooms at the hotel or one of the seven cottage suites on the estate, meaning weddings become weekend affairs at Woburn Abbey.
