Hampshire has many historical literacy connections and boasts the birthplace of Charles Dickens and Jane Austen, with the latter writing all of her novels in the county. Natives of the county are known as ‘Hampshire Hogs’ due to the county’s long association with pigs and boars. Southampton and Portsmouth line the coastline, with the beautiful New Forest attracting many visitors and the Isle of Wight situated just to the south.
