Askham Hall is a grade I listed manor house estate that dates back to the late 1200s. Boasting a beautiful grade II listed converted wedding barn, boutique hotel-style accommodation and exquisite private gardens, it is a luxurious setting that exudes country warmth and charm. The spectacular venue has seen its share of awards too, being named the best wedding venue in Cumbria in recent years as well as receiving Boutique Guest Accommodation of the Year from Cumbria Tourism, a bronze Taste Of England award from Visit England and the Best Food and Drink Establishment at the Cumbria Family Business Awards, all in 2018. Now, their restaurant 'Allium at Askham Hall' has even been awarded a Michelin star. Choose Askham Hall as your Lake District wedding venue and you can rest assured that every part of your day will be of the highest standard.
Sympathetically converted, the stunning Grade II listed Bank Barn is a venue to suit the most romantic of weddings. Featuring bare stone walls, an oak floor, limewashed chairs and round tables, large windows and glass doors and an open beamed oak ceiling decorated with twinkling fairy lights, it’s the perfect backdrop for the most special of occasions. Equally as enchanting is the outdoor pavilion. With views of the estate’s formal gardens, colourful terraces, herbaceous borders, woodland, meadows and ponds, the pavilion is an idyllic setting to exchange vows on a lovely summer’s day and a perfect spot for photos.
The latest addition to the venue is the lovingly restored Medieval Banquet Hall. With its large fireplace and low hanging beams, the banquet hall offers a grand location for a drinks reception or wedding breakfast and provides yet another atmospheric setting in which to celebrate in style.
For those looking for a religious ceremony, two picturesque churches are located within one mile of the estate. A romantic walk from Bank Barn through a secret garden takes you to St Peter’s Church, Askham, an attractive stone built local parish church. 13th Century St Michael's Church is also within walking distance; a charming chapel, it overlooks Askham Hall and commands views of the River Lowther and Lowther Castle.
The estate at Askham offers many unusual locations for drinks receptions and distinctive wedding photography. From the old courtyard and stable block to the kitchen garden and formal lawns with their stunning Lake District views, it is an enchanting and memorable setting in which to start married life.
Those staying overnight will be delighted with Askham’s luxurious hotel bedrooms. Elegant and bespoke, each room has been individually styled to enhance its architectural features. With their large antique baths, lead mullion windows, luxurious furnishings and garden views, they ooze charm and character and are the perfect place to end the day and wake to the views that inspired Wainwright the following morning.
With its idyllic location, Askham Hall is the perfect setting for a luxurious and stylish country house wedding and is easily one of the finest wedding venues in the Lake District.
