Situated on the outskirts of Axminster and Lyme Regis, River Cottage is an idyllic rural retreat close to the South coast, perfect for relaxed country wedding.
Quaint and full of charm, River Cottage and its 65 acres of organic farmland is a unique wedding venue in Devon that features an eclectic style; a famous farmhouse, the traditional vegetable garden, the amazing Mongolian yurt and delicious dishes created by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s trained chefs.
Steeped in 400 years of history, the white-rendered farmhouse at River Cottage is been restored and lovingly refurbished to a luxurious standard, featuring cosy wood fires and an inglenook fireplace, a warm décor and a distinctive vintage furniture. Rustic and romantic, the farmhouse is a charming place for an intimate wedding ceremony.
Alternatively, say ‘I do’ in the gorgeous vegetable garden. Utterly different, walk through the organic vegetables to the picturesque hazel arch which is woven in climbing sweet peas, while guests sit on benches and straw bales, surrounded by remarkable views of the rolling countryside. A truly pretty place to become man and wife.
The Mongolian yurt is a real eye catching addition to River Cottage. The cream circular yurt, with its stone fire, sheepskin rugs, wooden benches and dressed with twinkling fairy lights, provides a quirky yet cosy and comfortable space for guests to gather for the drinks reception.
The farmhouse kitchen is what makes River Cottage so recognisable, with Hugh cooking all of his dishes on the TV series from here. With a team of talented chefs, couples can create their own celebratory menu, wowing guests with the finest local and seasonal ingredients as well produce grown and reared on the organic farm itself. Share the centre stage with food and add a unique flavour to your wedding.
The wedding breakfast feast is served in the elegant dining room, a softly lit space that is homely and romantic. Or, for larger weddings, the threshing barn is an authentic space with wooden ceiling beams, old cobb walls, natural stone floors and full height glass doors. With an adjoining decking area, which is heated and covered, the barn offers the bride and groom both inside and outside dining and drinking options.
