There was an surprising and delightful turn of events at Gemma and Jack’s wedding at Rivervale Barn on Easter Sunday when, rather than a wedding, guests celebrated an unexpected arrival.

Gemma had been having twinges that morning but as her due date was still a way off she was determined to make it down the aisle. However, while getting ready in Rivervale Barn’s Cornstore Cottage, the contractions started and then came on very frequently so that by the time Jack arrived it was quickly decided they should go to the hospital. Lindsey from Galloping Gourmet went in the car with Gemma and Jack to make sure they found their way to Frimley Park Hospital as, by this point, time was not on their side! They arrived just as Gemma’s waters broke.

Meanwhile the wedding guests had gathered at the barn and the registrars had arrived. Instead of asking everyone to take their seats for the wedding ceremony, Hayley (Galloping Gourmet’s Senior Events Manager at Rivervale Barn) and the father of the bride were very pleased to announce the birth of Ava Connor at 1.37pm that afternoon!

Gemma and Jack had requested that their guests continue the celebrations without them and the Events Team kept the drinks flowing for a slightly extended drinks reception whilst both the bride’s and the groom’s parents visited their new granddaughter. On their return to Rivervale Barn, the new grandparents were welcomed into the dining barn with a huge round of applause. The bride’s father was delighted to announce that baby Ava was healthy and doing well, if a little small at just over four and half pounds.

Dinner and speeches followed as planned and the evening continued with a disco. The Events Team even sent a wedding breakfast to the hospital for the proud new parents to enjoy. At around 9:00pm new dad Jack returned to the barn, elated yet somewhat shell shocked, and was welcomed in style with a rousing rendition of “For he’s a jolly good fellow” by Darren the resident DJ.

Certainly a first for Rivervale Barn wedding venue and an exceptional and emotional day that I’m sure will be remembered forever by everyone involved.

Our very best wishes and congratulations to Gemma, Jack and their beautiful baby daughter, Ava.
