Which Wedding Cake Suits Your Venue?

Wedding cakes; there are millions of styles. But which one will suit your wedding venue? Helen from Bellissimo Cakes shares her tips. Warning – do not read this post if you’re feeling hungry/on a diet! Includes graphic images of wedding cakes.

You've booked a beautiful wedding venue, you've bought the dress... and now you need to pick the cake. If you've chosen a wedding theme or style to suit your wedding venue or vice versa, you don't want your choice of cake to let the side down! Here, Helen Mansey - owner of couture wedding cake company Bellissimo Cakes - gives her tips on choosing a cake to complement your wedding venue.

Barn wedding venues are usually set among acres of open fields and woodland, so this calls for a natural rustic theme. This taupe cake with a piped floral scroll design is adorned with fluttering sugar butterflies and sits on a cake stand carved from cedar to give it the wow factor.

A marquee wedding is often a relaxed informal affair. Due to uneven ground I suggest a stacked cake on a secure base. Pedestal cake stands are a no-no here because you don't want to risk the cake toppling over on your big day! This 3-tier pale peach cake with ivory polka dots and sugar roses would fit perfectly with a relaxed romantic theme.

Country houses

If you are having your reception at a country house and envisage your guests mingling amongst the flower beds whilst sipping champagne, then this tumbling daisy cake fits well with the country garden theme.

Manor houses

Manor houses are often steeped in history with elegant reception rooms. This wedding cake, embellished with intricate hand piped lace detail on every tier and hand-crafted sugar roses, combines classic elegance with the modern twist of a blush pink base colour.

Country estate

A wedding at a luxurious country estate set in beautiful grounds needs a cake that is timeless and elegant. Multiple tiers, pillars and exquisite piping would all work well in an opulent reception room. This ivory cake decorated with piped string work, swags and piped lace - and adorned with hand-crafted lily of the valley and cream roses - would hold its own in a grand setting.

Small Wedding

If you have a budget and are planning a small wedding this does not mean you have to miss out on the cake! For a low cost option this simply iced sponge cake finished with green ribbon and topped with fresh flowers could be served as dessert with a fruit coulis.

Castle Wedding

A Castle is the ultimate venue for a fairytale wedding. With magnificent reception rooms that are historic and atmospheric you need a wedding cake with presence. This multi-tiered ivory cake with hand piped detail and brush embroidery would sit comfortably within medieval surroundings.
