Novelist George Eliot (aka Mary Anne Evans) once said “Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” We say, here, here George! Autumn weddings are da bomb and here’s why...
1. Autumn weddings are budget friendly
Being less popular, autumn wedding dates are often cheaper than those in spring and summer so you could make a big saving. You may find there is better availability for Saturdays, Sundays and Fridays too.
2. Comfort food is on the menu
After the salad days of summer, it makes a welcome change to tuck into warm, hearty grub like bangers and mash or stew and dumplings, apple crumble and custard or even pumpkin pie. Put some seasonal favourites on your wedding menu and your guests will thank you.
3. Fall fashion is more fun
If you live for accessories, autumn is the best time of year to get married. Autumn wedding outfits for brides, grooms, bridesmaids and ushers can include gloves, snuggly shrugs, muffs, pashminas, brollies and hats a go-go.
4. You won’t lose your cool
Summer is a beautiful time of year to get married but cooler autumn days have their advantages. For example, wearing a voluminous princess dress would be like wearing a duvet during a summer heatwave, so if you have your heart set on rich, heavy fabrics, an autumn wedding is for you.
5. Make use of seasonal celebrations
Winter may have the biggest holiday of the year but autumn has more celebrations than any other season. Traditional harvest festivals, Halloween and Bonfire Night all fall within this season and can offer inspiration for your reception in the form of fireworks, apple bobbing or trick or treat-style goody bag favours.
6. Autumn is the most colourful season
Colour runs riot in autumn when, rather than flowers, every tree is in bloom. Leaves turn from green to gold, russet and ruby creating a readymade colour palette for autumn weddings and a wonderful backdrop for photographs.
7. Darker nights mean more lights
Nights’ drawing in is the perfect excuse to illuminate your wedding with fairy lights, jack-o-lanterns and candles. Give your guests sparklers for fun photos outside in the evening.
8. Natural decorations
Nature provides all the quirky decorations you could wish for such as conkers, pumpkins, pinecones, wood cuts and branches. You could save money on flowers and create decorations for your wedding that are truly unique.
