Spice up your summer wedding by making the most of the outdoors. An outdoor ceremony is the ideal way to tie the knot in summer, but your open air celebrations don’t have to stop there. Your drinks reception could also take place outside or you could have evening food under the stars. But how do you dress your venue for a wedding outside? Here are some ideas for creating your very own enchanted garden wedding...
Make an outdoor room
If you can’t have your wedding reception completely outside, try creating an outdoor room for everyone to enjoy at the drinks reception or in the evening. See what areas are available to you at your wedding venue and then let your imagination run riot. Is there a grassy lawn surrounded by hedges that are crying out to become a lounge? Or perhaps there are trees that would be the perfect umbrella for a chill out area? Straw bales make cheap and cheerful temporary seating (remember to cover the seat bit with thick fabric- straw is spikey!) and it won’t be the end of the world if they get rained on.
Get creative with lighting
The most effective way of dressing a wedding outside is with lighting. Soft twinkly lighting is so romantic and makes everything feel just a little bit special. If you’re on a budget, simple tealights in jam jars or lanterns will do the trick, and white fairy lights are cheap as chips but so effective when the sun goes down. If you have a bit more to spend, you could opt for garlands of hanging lanterns or Mediterranean-style festoon lighting.
As if chandeliers don’t look magnificent enough inside a beautiful country house wedding venue, hang them outside against a natural backdrop and things get truly magical. Suspended from trees or an arbor, a chandelier sets the scene for your very own midsummer night’s dream.
Ribbons, bunting and pom poms
Never underestimate the power of bunting. Add a strand here and there and before you know it, you’ll have an awesome looking outdoor wedding reception space on your hands. Think pom poms are just for indoors? Not so. These perennial wedding favourites will look brilliant hanging from branches around your wedding venue. The sky really is the limit with ribbon. Keep it simple and add a single bow to topiary and trees or go crazy with colour and create curtains to divide spaces.
Bottles, bags and buckets
Everyday items can be transformed into fantastic decorations for your wedding. Pretty fabric tote bags can be filled with country garden flowers and hung on fence posts, glass bottles can become outdoor vases suspended from trees or beams and simple metal buckets can serve as elegant pew ends.
