Romantic, tranquil, and fun… that’s exactly how we’d describe our weekend in Cambridgeshire, as we attended the Grand Opening of the newly renovated Bassmead Manor Barns.
It’s all in the detail...
Following over a year’s worth of renovations, the newly improved barns include a sophisticated new reception area; seated dining for 150 in Bridge Barn - the new oak reception room; and an adjoining Moat Barn - perfect for your drinks reception with its natural light and plush new bar. And, if that wasn’t impressive enough, there are a whole host of new facilities to cater for both you and your family’s needs. From the gorgeous bridal boudoir, to accommodation for newlyweds, family and friends.
We fell in love with Dove Cottage, the honeymoon cottage designed specifically for the newlywed couple. Its luxurious grey and aubergine colour scheme, impressive bathroom, and idyllic bedroom views across the countryside make it a delight to stay in. Whilst Appletree cottage is the perfect retreat for friends and family; one of our favourite touches here were the rooms named after flowers - including bluebells, buttercups, and lavender.
Saturday 10th May welcomed friends and family of the owners, Richard and Cordelia, as they celebrated the exciting enhancements that had taken place at the pretty barns. Street food, including Asian fusion and a scrumptious hog roast; along with a multitude of sweet treats were enjoyed by all. It was lovely to see the courtyard and bridal gardens full of atmosphere as children played in the grounds and guests devoured the tasty food choices on offer.
On Sunday, the venue saw the arrival of 100 brides-to-be, along with their partners and family. Welcomed with Bellini and Kir Royal cocktails on arrival, guests got to enjoy savoury canapés, bowl foods and dessert canapés whilst they explored the venue and picked our brains with a whole host of wedding day questions. Venue owners, Richard and Cordelia, the Galloping Gourmet team and Country House Wedding Venues were all on hand to chat to about weddings and the venue.
The Galloping Gourmet chefs really were on top form. They not only gave helpful advice to all our attendees, but also gave the most fabulous demo of pasta making from scratch at the Chef Station. The Italian cuisine of choice this weekend was ravioli, and was rather delicious, if we must say so ourselves!
But don’t just take our word for it, here is some of the feedback we got about the day from the lovely brides-to-be who attended:
“Amazing, we loved it! Can’t wait for a more personal tour to discuss and ask lots of questions” – Francesca
