He was once the poster boy – or rather, man – of the bachelor lifestyle. But it seems gorgeous George could now be planning the quintessentially English wedding. Last week, he and fiancée Amal Alamuddin enjoyed a private tour of Highclere Castle, home of TV's Downton Abbey' . And, rumour has it, Amal was so blown away that George started making “discreet enquires” about country house weddings.
Will George and Amal wed at Highclere Castle?
There's no doubt that Highclere Castle has A-list appeal. Seat of the Earls of Carnarvon for hundreds of years, Highclere's star status was sealed when the 5th Earl of Carnarvon discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. In fact, a tour of the Egyptian Exhibition inside this spectacular country house could be amongst the highlights for George and Amal's wedding guests.
Being on a large private estate means the happy couple could keep the pesky paps away from their wedding. And, Heathrow airport's nearby, so guests from far flung places will have no problem jetting in for the nuptials.
Other country house venues on their list
If George fancies following in the footsteps of Hollywood greats, he can wed Amal at Cain Manor. This magnificent Tudor country house was once the home of famous actors, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh.
But, for an elegant affair with a homely atmosphere, Kirtlington Park would be an ideal choice. This impressive mansion has 2 impressive staircases for Amal's grand entrance. And “Capability” Brown inspired gardens just like Highclere Castle for the star-studded drinks reception.

Or would Amal prefer a castle after all?
It sounds as though bride-to-be, Amal is rather taken with the idea of a castle wedding. In which case, she'll adore Powderham Castle. At 600 years old, and set on a 3,500-acre estate, this wedding venue has all the pomp and circumstance this high profile duo could wish for.
