Real Wedding - A homespun wedding

Laura and Sam’s rustic day, held at Wasing Park, in Berkshire, was full of beautiful, handmade touches.

Sam popped the question to girlfriend Laura on the first night together in their new home. “We had built our house together from the ground up, so moving in on Sam’s 21st birthday was special enough, but when he proposed it made it even more romantic,” smiles Laura.

First things first

Like most brides-to-be, the first thing Laura did was head to the shops to buy a wedding magazine or two to help her to kickstart her planning. Pinterest came shortly after and became a huge influence on her wedding style. Of course, finding the right venue, which had everything in one place, was also important to the couple. They didn’t think this would be possible until they heard about Wasing Park from a family friend. “The venue ticked all the boxes. It had a rustic barn conversion, there was a beautiful little church on site and stables accommodation - all in one place! The rooms were exquisite and the grounds were a perfect backdrop for a country wedding with a touch of elegance,” explains Laura.

Woodland wonderland

With the venue secured, the couple began making Laura’s Pinterest plans a reality, creating their very own rustic woodland theme. “Sam and I have very similar tastes and this theme suited us perfectly. We made everything ourselves, from the table decorations to the cake stand. It made the day even more personal and everyone was amazed at all the little touches” says Laura. The pair also made blackberry jam favours and all their wedding stationery. “It took a long time to prepare it all but it was 100 per cent worth it!”

Tailor-made

While Laura had seen lots of lovely wedding dresses in all the boutiques she visited, she hadn’t found one that met all her dream dress requirements - so she decided to create her own. “I tried quite a simple Grecian satin dress on, which was ok, but when the store owners said I could take it away for £170, I was sold! I knew my cousin and his fiancé, who are dressmakers at Babhua, could help change it into my dream dress” smiles Laura. With the help of her talented family members and Pinterest, Laura designed her perfect gown. “There was very little resemblance of the old dress but it was worth it. I absolutely fell in love with it.” Sam, and his best man, Louie, along with the bridesmaids also had bespoke outfits made for the day. The boys’ tweed three-piece suits were made by Jonathon Kruger, while the girls’ dresses were designed by Laura’s family at Bahbua.

Everything in its right place

The couples dedication and hard work paid off as everything came together for their big-day at Wasing Park. “Our ceremony was in the church on site and my dad walked me down the aisle – it was a really special moment,” smiles Laura. “The whole thing was beautiful and emotional,” she adds. Delicious canapés, drinks and a three-course meal followed, all of which were captured by the couples’ photographers, Studio Rouge. “An amazing photographer was a real must-have. I was so happy when I stumbled across Studio Rouge, they were everything I was looking for and their style of images were just stunning.”

The perfect hosts

The couples’ mouthwatering wedding breakfast included a starter of mushroom risotto, main of beef, Dauphinoise potatoes and asparagus and a trio of puddings. During the reception, Silhouette artist, Sarah Goddard, also treated guests to their very own silhouette artwork using just a pair of scissors! “It was a surprise to all our guests – they were blown away by her work.” She was followed by Laura and Sam’s DJ, Moonraker, who entertained the evening crowd to an uplifiting set of wedding tunes. “The whole day was perfect, we wouldn’t have changed a thing,” smiles Laura.

Laura’s top tips:

  1. Enjoy every minute, it will go by so quickly
  2. Make sure you get to spend some time alone, just the two of you. It’s so easy to spend most of the day apart as you chat with guests and host your day
  3. Don’t stress about things too much – on the day of the wedding you’ll be on such a high that you won’t really care about the little things anyway!
