The couple soon began planning their big weekend of celebrations and set upon managing their guest list first. “Until you know how many people you’re inviting, it’s hard to budget properly,” explains Dee. “The best bit of advice we were given regarding our budget was to not spend money on things that we feel we ought to, rather than want to. Your friends and family will want you to have the day that you are both comfortable with, and will be delighted just to be a part of it,” she says. The couple also quickly settled on their wedding “must-haves”, which included a great venue, glorious food, a fab photographer and a talented florist.
Ticking the boxes
Finding the right venue was easy for Dee and Dave. Lemore Manor was only the second venue they visited, and having made Dee cry tears of happiness, the couple knew it was a winner. “It ticked every box for us; the right amount of bedrooms, a traditional house dressed in a clean modern décor, huge grounds all around yet accessible in location, a gorgeous bandstand to get married under… I could go on,” smiles Dee. The owners, Ben and Margaret, also played a key role in the couple’s decision as they accommodated every single one of Dee and Dave’s needs without question. “Margaret became my wedding confidant. We had telephone conversations at 8pm, giggling with excitement about our plans!” laughs Dee.
Hosting a natural and relaxed wedding celebration was really important to the couple. They chose to loosely base their day around colour and textures including soft pinks, peaches and creams. “Nothing matched, but everything worked together nicely,” says Dee. They dressed the marquee with candles, lanterns and lights, and styled the tables with different pieces of green, clear and rose glassware. To compliment the chic style of the day, Dee chose a Lillian West lacy gown with a detailed high back and train. The lace overlay could be removed for the evening celebration, leaving Dee in a silky, simple underlay with a low plunging back. “It was two dresses for the price of one,” laughs Dee. The groom looked similarly stylish in a blue three-piece Reiss suit, while his groomsmen wore light grey with peachy pink coloured ties.
The couple chose Alex, from My Love Story, to capture their wedding celebration after being impressed with his storybook-like work. “We love photographs, so we were looking for a photographer that would blend into the background and provide shots that would convey more than just smiles,” explains Dee. Alex captured all the emotion of Dee and Dave’s big-day and those little moments they missed, or had forgotten about. “He was one of the most talented and genuinely lovely people we met in the wedding planning process,” adds Dee.
A joyful celebration
On the 9th August 2014, Dee’s four best friends, Cerian, Peri, Laura and Vicki, joined her as she walked down the aisle. “They are all great girls and were the perfect friends to have by my side,” smiles Dee. The couple enjoyed a civil ceremony in Lemore Manor’s grounds, accompanied by lots of tears and laughter from all. “Walking down the aisle with Dad was so very lovely, he relaxed me and made me giggle lots. We all loved every part of the ceremony,” says Dee.
The celebrations continued well into the afternoon as champagne, G & Ts and canapés were served on the patio while guests enjoyed garden games. Throughout the day, the couple had entertained guests with their own wedding playlists – played during the ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast – but they decided to hire a band as their main source of entertainment in the evening. “We have a favourite band that we started going to watch when we first got together and, after much persuading and nagging, they finally gave in and agreed to do a wedding! It’s one part of the day we’ll never forget.”
Dee’s top tips:
- Do what you want, not what others want you to do – it’s your day.
- On the day itself, remember to stop and take a minute to look around every hour or so. See everybody you love in the same place, enjoying themselves, celebrating what you and your other half have.
- Enjoy some time together with your other half. It’s easy to get swept away from one another when there are guests to spend time with.
