From royal, regal style through to charming country romance… we explore some of the iconic looks in weddings from 1940 to modern day.

Beautiful weddings from years gone by always have and always will inspire the weddings of modern day brides. From Audrey Hepburn’s tea length gown to lovely lace, as worn by Grace Kelly and The Duchess of Cambridge, we’re taking a closer look at some of the most influential big day looks…

1940s

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip

Dressed in a timeless ivory satin long-sleeved gown, decorated with 10,000 white pearls and embroidery, Queen Elizabeth II looked simply stunning on her big day. With simple accessories and a silk tulle veil, the Queen channeled a chic and timeless look that looked dainty despite all the detail on her gown.

1950s

Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer

For her first marriage, Audrey Hepburn wore a super stylish tea length gown made by French couturier and costume designer Pierre Balmain. The day oozed real vintage glamour – just as you’d expect from a wedding with two Hollywood stars – and the tea-length gown and 50’s dress shape continues to be popular today.

Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier

This fairytale wedding saw a once ordinary girl marry into European royalty – and the whole world got to watch it. Regal and lavish, Grace’s gown is perhaps one of the most iconic in history. The lace bodice and high neck are just two features that are still echoed in gowns worn by today’s brides.

Poppy Delevingne and James Cook

As a model and British socialite it’s no surprise that Poppy had not one but three bridal looks. Her chic two-in-one gown was designed by Karl Largerfield and had the added value of a removable skirt/train, meaning she could dance the night away in a cute mini dress. For her second wedding celebration in Morocco, she channeled a fun, hippy vibe in a dress made by Peter Dunda from Pucci.
