When it comes to planning a wedding we all have different tastes, likes and dislikes. That’s exactly why we like to share a whole range of wedding ideas on the Country House Wedding Venues blog. Today it’s the turn of Lucy, one of our Wedding Venue Specialists, to tell us exactly how she’d style her wedding at the beautiful Upwaltham Barns…
When not working, I love to get stuck into a good crime novel with a glass of wine in hand! I love getting outdoors too and enjoy everything from coasteering to gorge walking and caving. You could say I’m quite the adventurer!
Lucy’s wedding venue
With a love of the great outdoors I had to choose a gorgeous countryside wedding venue. One thing I love about Upwaltham Barns is that it’s full of character. There are tons of flowers and unique features all around. I especially love the Moroccan Snug!

Wedding theme inspiration
Like a lot of brides at the moment, I love the bohemian wedding style. I think it goes perfectly with a laid back, rustic wedding venue like Upwaltham Barns. Of course, adding a touch of glitz and glam is important too – it is your wedding day after all!
Wedding outfits and accessories
Flowing lace and wild flowers epitomise the bohemian theme, as do bright and bold Moroccan jewel tones. While I’d keep my dress in a traditional colour, I’d opt for jewelled shoes to add to the glamour of the day, as well as art deco-style jewellery to add a bit of sparkle to my look. The art deco touch also complements the vintage style of the barn perfectly.

My groom would wear something quite modern and laid back in style. A three-piece grey suit, rustic boutonniere and perhaps some braces and a bow tie!

When it comes to boho weddings I think a mix of textures and shapes look lovely. I love pompoms and pinwheels in bright colours and think they add a really fun feel to the day. As there’s a Moroccan Snug on site too, I’d also add in some colourful Moroccan lanterns so that the theme runs consistently throughout the venue’s décor. Hanging tealights in mason jars and Moroccan lamps are other great ideas for lighting up the setting at night.

Nothing beats a gorgeous, wild and rustic bouquet. They are so on-trend right now and look great with the backdrop of a beautiful barn. The more colourful the blooms the better! The table flowers would be just as colourful but would sit in cute detailed glasses and medicine vases along the length of the table.

With bright colours and flowers being key to the style and décor of my wedding day, I’d make sure my wedding cake incorporated these elements too. Handcrafted or fresh flowers, and chic, vibrant watercolour designs are both very boho and beautiful.
