Christmas Day 2011 is a day that Hannah will never forget. “Rob proposed to me on Christmas morning after 6 years together. It was a lovely surprise,” she smiles. The couple decided to wait a while before beginning their wedding planning just over a year later.
The first thing Hannah and Rob decided to sort was their wedding venue. They decided to get married in a local church and searched online for a suitable venue nearby. “We didn’t visit any other venues apart from Mythe Barn. On the day we visited it was snowing – it looked lovely. It was close to home and perfect for what we wanted,” explains Hannah. With their venue booked up, the couple began planning other aspects of their day, such as their wedding flowers, invitations and cake. “I found the perfect wedding flowers in a magazine. I decided to have everything pretty and pink. The flowers were pink peonies and dahlias, lime green hydrangeas and cream roses, stocks and dahlias,” says Hannah. Her pretty bouquet was complemented by lace effect pink invitations and a pale pink lace and crystal cake – to match her wedding dress.
Sparkle and lace
Hannah’s wedding dress inspired much of her décor and was a central part of her wedding day. She chose a lace dress with a touch of sparkle and knew it was perfect from the moment she put it on. “It was really delicate and very me. I tried on a few more dresses afterwards but kept going back to mine,” smiles Hannah. Her finishing touches to her wedding gown included her grandma’s earrings, a head piece and a veil with tiny crystal detail. The groom on the other hand kitted the boys out in a stylish modern suit from Next, on the high street. Rob’s best man and Hannah’s Bridesman shared this trendy look.
After 15 months of planning, Hannah and Rob’s big day had finally arrived. Hannah’s dad walked her down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D, a real wedding classic, and the couple enjoyed a heartfelt ceremony with readings from friends and family. The wedding reception that followed at Mythe Barn was everything the couple had dreamed of. “We had the best day ever, I don’t think I stopped smiling all day. The food was incredible,” she smiles. The couple chose a mouth-watering menu of leek and potato soup, sirloin beef roast dinner and vanilla cheesecake pudding.
Rock the party
The wonderful atmosphere at Mythe Barn played a big part in the Hannah and Rob’s day. Laughter and smiles filled the room as guests enjoyed speeches from the wedding party. “The best man speech was great, he had everyone laughing and Rob loved it, even though everyone was laughing at him!” laughs Hannah. The couple also hired a band for the evening called The Marmites. The band serenaded guests with an acoustic performance throughout the wedding breakfast and later in the night played a live and loud set that truly rocked the wedding! “The whole day was perfect,” smiles Hannah.
Post-wedding, the couple set off to Halkidiki’s Sani Beach Club for two weeks on honeymoon. They decided to take their wedding attire with them to get some additional shots on the beach and in the marina. “The honeymoon was paradise and it was great to have another opportunity to wear my dress!” says Hannah.
Hannah’s top tips:
- Enjoy it and stay calm
- Keep your wedding plans secret. The more people that know things the more hassle you get! It also means everyone gets a lovely surprise on the day itself
- Do what you both want to do – not what everyone else wants to do
