Lucinda got an extra special treat for her birthday, a trip to Venice and a surprise engagement. “Adam told me he was taking me to Brighton but surprised me the night before we flew to Venice,” explains Lucinda. “He proposed to me on my birthday in St Mark’s Square while fireworks went off in the background. It was one of the most amazing days of my life – only second to our wedding day,” she smiles.
When the couple arrived home from their whirlwind break they were keen to secure their perfect wedding venue. Within just a month they’d booked Rivervale Barn in Yateley, Hampshire. “As soon as we visited we knew it was the venue for us. We liked that the ceremony and reception could both be held in one place and the bridal suite was amazing!” smiles Lucinda.
Inspired by Italy
Pinterest was a very useful resource for Lucinda. She created over 20 different boards depicting everything from her dream dress to her favourite flowers and colour scheme. “I got so many amazing ideas from Pinterest, I would highly recommend it to other brides who are looking for ideas on making your their wedding personal and special,” says Lucinda. With Adam being Italian and the couple having got engaged in Venice, they decided to theme their day around the beautiful country. They named their tables after famous landmarks in Venice, used maps of Venice to make their own confetti cones and had a picture of Rialto Bridge as the backdrop for their table plan. The couple also gave their guests a bottle of Limoncello as favours. “We saved money by making some things ourselves, including our own Order of Ceremony booklets, but on the whole we did go over budget. Magazines were really useful when it came to estimating budgets as they usually included a spreadsheet which broke down costs, but of course not everything is exact,” says Lucinda.
Getting the little details just right was also important to the couple, so they used a pink blush and blue navy scheme throughout their day to ensure consistency. “We had a welcome table with personal photographs, candles and flowers. We also fragranced our wedding with Jo Malone reed diffusers and perfume so after the wedding every time we smelt the fragrance it would remind us of our special day,” explains Lucinda.
All about the dress
Like most girls, finding ‘the one’ was important to Lucinda. In fact, her wedding gown was the couple’s biggest splurge! The mermaid style Pronovias dress was finished with intricate beaded detail and styled with a full length tulle veil, which Lucinda had ordered from the US. “My dress was exactly how I imagined it to look and feel. Choosing the right veil to go with it was really important as I felt it added to the whole look that I wanted,” explains Lucinda. “Adam wore a navy suit, which he designed himself, and looked so handsome. When I first saw him I had to hold back the tears,” she adds.
The perfect day
On the couple’s big-day, Lucinda’s dad walked her down the aisle to the majestic tones of their wedding harpist. “Our harpist played during our ceremony and drinks reception, she was amazing! We also had two of our best friends read for us during the ceremony,” says Lucinda. A drinks reception with canapés and bucks fizz followed the ceremony, before guests tucked into a three-course wedding breakfast. “All the food at Rivervale was delicious and well-presented and the staff were so professional and friendly,” smiles Lucinda.
The couple’s big day came to a close with a sparkler send off. Each guest was handed a sparkler with a box of personalised matches. Once the sparklers were all lit, they formed an archway of bright light for the couple to walk down as they left for the night. “It was so amazing and we have great photos to treasure that moment forever,” smiles Lucinda.
Two days after their big celebration, Adam and Lucinda headed to Mauritius for a honeymoon of a lifetime. “It was the most amazing place - the food, the people, the weather. We swam will dolphins in the sea in their natural habitat, rode horses on the beach, ate dinner on the beach, it really was paradise,” says Lucinda.
Lucinda’s top tips:
- Stay calm while organising and don’t let things get on top of you
- Remember the real reason you’re getting married
- If things go wrong on the day, don’t worry about it, no one else will even notice!
