From the moment Sian and Joe got engaged they had a firm idea of what they wanted from their big-day. Keen to have a relaxed, rustic celebration, the couple knew the right venue would be key and began looking for the perfect barn…
The seal of approval
It wasn’t long before Sian and Joe came across Clock Barn, in Hampshire. “Every time we looked at another venue, we just kept coming back to Clock Barn, so decided to go and view it,” explains Sian. Upon arrival, the couple certainly weren’t disappointed. “We were blown away,” smiles Sian. “The team answered every question we had, with no hassle, and our meeting and show around was calm and relaxed with no pressure.” Sian and Joe weren’t the only ones impressed either. The couple also brought along their parents, who too fell in love with the venue. “My dad said ‘You have to get married here, I don't get emotional often, but I can just imagine your wedding here, it has to be here,’” smiles Sian. With that sorted, the couple pencilled in the date.
The simple life
Clock Barn was the perfect accompaniment to Sian and Joe’s vision. It was well suited to an informal, relaxed and homely affair and complemented their rustic styling. The couple opted for rustic touches combined with pastel colours. Rather than go OTT with their wedding design, the pair let the venue do the talking and added simple touches including flowers in vases, white chair sashes with lavender in them, and pompoms.
The relaxed and pretty feel of the day was also reflected in the couples’ choice of outfits. Joe opted for black jeans, a white shirt and braces, while Sian wore a charming organza gown with beaded detailing on the waist. “I actually won my dress on the UK Bride website,” says Sian. “I paired it with a veil that was remodelled by my grandmother. She stitched on lace from my mother's wedding dress to make it even more special,” she smiles. Sian’s grandmother didn’t just use her handiwork on the veil though – she made all the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses too! The six maids all wore handmade pastel gowns, while Sian’s flower girl was dressed in white.
A mouth-watering menu
On the day itself, Sian and her father arrived at Clock Barn in a Bentley - the perfect car for a perfect occasion. While the ceremony was a huge part of the couple’s big-day, the party that followed was pretty special too! The pair opted for a three course meal and a fun American street food package for the evening, offered by Clock Barn caterers Galloping Gourmet. While their wedding breakfast consisted of a pork and apple spring roll starter, chicken main, and shortbread stack dessert, the evening food was a real US affair, featuring foods such as salted beef bagels.
Keen to ensure their day was full of fun, Sian and Joe put out the stops to get all their guests involved. “Prior to the wedding, we were in talks with our DJ about something fun to do. He was amazing with ideas, so we decided to play a game which involved choosing a male from each table, and the rest of their table dressing them up as a bride!” laughs Sian. “The outcomes were hilarious.”
Sian’s top tip:
“Don’t waste your time worrying about what could go wrong and how to make everyone happy. People are happy if you are happy.”
