With just 10 months to plan a wedding and find the perfect venue, Jenny and Phil had a big job on their hands. After discovering all their preferred local venues were booked for their chosen summer wedding dates, they began to take their search for the perfect venue further afield…
Finding the one
As a school teacher Jenny only had the option of a summer wedding if she were to enjoy her dream day and honeymoon together. With summer well on its way, and all the local venues booked up, the couple took a trip to Bassmead Manor Barns and instantly feel in love. “Phil found the venue and took me there for a showaround. I cried as soon as I walked in; I knew it was the one,” smiles Jenny.
With its neutral colour palette and rustic vibe Bassmead was naturally pretty, so Jenny and Phil chose to just enhance the look with country vintage style. “We used a splash of sage green and blush pink throughout our décor – which featured lace, hessian bunting, hanging hearts and jugs of flowers,” explains Jenny. The pair also incorporated their love of travel into their big-day with globe props and photos from their travels scattered throughout the venue.
To complement her vintage theme, Jenny opted for a vintage-inspired gown from Sottero and Midgely. She accessorised with a tiara and floor length single tier veil, for the classic bride look. Phil also went vintage with a stylish three-piece wool suit, complemented by sage green accessories – the colour also worn by the bridesmaids.
Fit for a bride
The night before her big-day Jenny and her three bridesmaids treated themselves to a bit of luxury. They stayed at Wyboston Spa for a bit of pamper-me time before heading to Bassmead Manor Barns early the next morning. It was at Bassmead that the girls got ready in the venue’s beautiful Bridal Boudoir.
By the time the ceremony began emotions were running high. In fact, the pair had to take a breather midway through the ceremony to be given tissues to mop up their happy tears! These didn’t last long though and the pair began to unwind and celebrate their special day.
Fun for all the family
The charming surroundings and relaxed atmosphere of Bassmead helped the couple to create a fun-filled day - something that was really important to the both of them. They had lawn games, beer barrels, summer cocktails, an animal-themed photo booth and a sweet cart, all of which kept their guests entertained for hours. The wedding food went down extremely well too, with delights ranging from miniature fish and chips to burger canapés, a three-course wedding breakfast with a lemon tart dessert, and a fun-filled barbecue for guests to tuck into come night.
If that wasn’t enough entertainment, guests were also treated to some very personal performances from the wedding couple. Not only did they get to witness the newlywed’s beautiful first dance, they also witnessed Jenny rapping to Whatta Man, by Salt-N-Pepa, and Phil dancing to MC Hammer! “We wouldn’t have changed a single thing,” smiles Jenny. “It’s totally cliché but it really was the most perfect day of our lives.”
Jenny’s top tip:
“Embrace any changes. I ended up having a bonus bridesmaid as my sister had a baby girl, called Sophie, who she carried down the aisle with her.”
