When Ally and Dom began their search for the perfect wedding venue, there was only one type of venue they had in mind – a beautiful barn. Having made a shortlist of their favourite barns, which they’d found online, the couple began booking their visits hoping to find one that ticked all the boxes.
Bartholomew Barn, in West Sussex was the fourth barn venue that Ally and Dom had visited. Despite having visited several barns beforehand, they hadn’t quite had that spark that Bartholomew did. “We knew as soon as we saw the Barn that it was the right venue for us. It was more intimate and charming than any other venue we’d seen and the location was stunning,” explains Ally. “What’s more, the Barn space and courtyard was also perfect for all our needs,” she adds.
To style their Barn venue, the couple opted for a modern and bright colour scheme featuring navy, blue and raspberry. They also tied in gorgeous Tuscan and Scottish touches to reflect their families’ heritage. “Choosing the right flowers was key to helping us get the look we wanted,” explains Ally. “The flower balls that hung from the Barn ceiling were overwhelmingly beautiful. They complemented the moss blocks with pink flowers and succulents in terracotta pots – which gave off a real Tuscan vibe.” To add a touch of Scottish flair, the couple integrated thistles into their floral designs and served up Tunnocks Teacakes as a reminder of the taste of home.
Keeping the trend of combining two looks into one, Ally opted for a dress that could be worn two-ways. Her Charlotte Balbier dress, from The Bridal Boutique, in Haslemere, came with a three quarter length lace jacket that could be taken off come evening. Ally finished off her gown with a diamanté detail belt and pearl beaded veil.
Ally’s five bridesmaids dressed in a similarly sophisticated fashion and wore colours to reflect the couple’s wedding theme. The maids wore cream pleated skirts and navy blue tops from Reiss and finished their looks off with accessories of their own choice. “They all looked fantastic,” smiles Ally. “We had the most relaxed and fun morning getting ready together,” she adds.
A family affair
Ally and Dom’s spring wedding took place on 11th April. The Barn was full of people that meant a lot to the couple – something that was a highlight of their day. “It was so lovely having so many members of our family and friends all under one roof. It’s such a unique situation and we will never forget it,” smiles Ally.
The food and drink was also a huge part of the couple’s day. In fact, they even provided a free bar for all their guests! “Our family had travelled an awful long way so a free bar was a must!” laughs Ally.
For their wedding breakfast, the party enjoyed Italian Mezze for starters, panfried seabass as their main and served up their scrumptious naked wedding cake for dessert.
Big day memories
Come evening, all guests were certainly in the mood to party – so much so that the dancefloor remained packed all night long. “We kick-started the dancing with our first dance to Bill Wither’s Lovely Day,” smiles Ally. “It really summed up our whole day.”
At the end of the night the couple had a send-off they wouldn’t forget. “Our family and friends waved us off with glow sticks. Someone also struck up lots of singing,” laughs Ally. “We will always remember driving off seeing everyone singing and waving. We felt incredibly loved.”
Ally’s top tip:
“Let people help you plan and set up your day. We had so much fun making and organising things with friends and family. We dressed the Barn on the Friday and everyone loved playing a part.”
