From the moment Faye and Rich stepped into Rivervale Barn, they knew it was the one. Despite being the first venue they visited, they knew nothing would compare…
A venue full of natural beauty was important to Faye and Rich. They wanted their big-day setting to speak for itself – without the need for over-the-top décor and styling. “No matter what, we knew Rivervale Barn would always look beautiful,” smiles Faye. “I loved the high ceilings and exposed beams. It made the venue light and airy making it perfect for both a winter and summer’s day,” she adds. Another benefit of this Hampshire barn venue was its all-in-one setting. The couple were keen for all the guests to be in one place throughout the day – rather than scattered across different rooms. Rivervale’s open plan design would allow this.
All in the detail
Styling the venue was easy. To reflect the chic style of the barn, the couple opted for an elegant wedding theme, using a colour palette of grey and white with a touch of blush. Fabulous florals made a statement in the Reception Barn, and stood tall, complemented by chic candelabras. And for that touch of glamour, the tables were finished off with silver wedding stationary and blush pink macarons, given to guests as wedding favours. Other eye-catching wedding details included pink LED lighting and quirky 4ft LOVE letters, adding to the romance of the day.
Straight out of a fairytale
While the couple’s décor may have been simple, Faye’s dress was an elaborate piece of art. Featuring a beaded bodice, deep V detail at the front and back, and a full tulle skirt, the gown was nothing like Faye thought it would be. “I didn’t actually like it on the hanger, but my mam forced be to try it on – and I loved it,” smiles Faye. She finished her look off with a chapel length veil, held in place by a diamante band.
Faye wasn’t the only one dressed to impress, her groom and bridesmaids scored highly in the style stakes too. Rich opted for a fashionable navy three-piece fitted suit, with a stunning platinum tie, while the six maids looked chic in Dessy dresses. Their dresses reflected the colour scheme of the day and together they wore a combination of frost, platinum and charcoal grey gowns for an ultra-modern mismatched look. Keen to add some personality to their looks, Faye also asked her maids to accessorise with chunky fashion necklaces – a look she’s known for herself!
Faye and Rich celebrated their May Day wedding with a ceremony at a church and wedding reception at Rivervale Barn. Despite a slight hiccup at the church, the ceremony went even better than planned. “The Vicar said “We welcome you all here to witness Faye and Richards’s marriage problems” instead of marriage vows! It was actually really funny and totally relaxed Rich and I,” laughs Faye.
Rather than opt for a chauffeur-driven ride to Rivervale Barn, Rich drove the couple himself in their own car – giving the pair some precious time alone. “We really wanted some time to ourselves between getting married and the reception – just to take it all in,” explains Faye.
Upon arriving at Rivervale Barn, the couple and their guests were greeted with a drinks reception, before tucking into a delicious three-course meal. They opted for a smoked bacon Scotch egg starter, a fillet of beef for their main, and a delectable trio of desserts for pudding. “The food was absolutely incredible and the service impeccable,” smiles Faye. “A good wedding breakfast was such a big factor for both of us and Galloping Gourmet did an outstanding job,” she adds.
That personal touch
Entertainment played a huge role in the couple’s evening party. Rich chose a magician to stun their wedding guests, while Faye selected a band for the night – who even played the music for the couple’s first dance. “It was great to have the band sing Ellie Goulding’s How Long Will I Love You for our first dance. It made it a little more personal to us and the song was actually Rich’s own choice – which was lovely,” smiles Faye.
Faye’s top tip:
“If your budget allows book a videographer. The day really does fly by and it’s so easy to forget the little details. I can’t even remember saying our vows – so I can’t wait for our video to come back!”
