Morden Hall in South London was the setting for a recent photoshoot which would highlight exactly what this wonderful manor house venue has to offer brides and grooms. We spoke to Eva Tarnok, the photographer for the shoot, and Andri Benson, a wedding planner and the stylist for the event, on why Morden Hall makes the perfect location.
It was the venue itself that inspired photographer, Eva, as well as the incredible surroundings of the National Trust Park. “Morden Hall Park is one of my favourite local parks where I often come with my 3 children,” explains Eva. “It is such a beautiful park with variety of natural landscapes. I especially love the rose garden which is really stunning in spring and summer with its hundreds of colourful roses and other flowers.”
The idea behind the photoshoot was to convey the style and décor of Morden Hall and demonstrate what makes it a special venue. “I wanted to reflect the elegance of this historic venue, but also to showcase the natural beauty surrounding it,” says Eva. “Morden Hall is really an ideal location for weddings. The building is beautifully renovated to a very high standard. For me, what makes this venue perfect is its idyllic natural surroundings and the fact that it is a secluded and private venue.”
Styling the Shoot
Eva brought in the help of Andri Benson to create the right look for the venue. “Eva approached me to help her style the shoot,” says Andri. “We decided to use a pastel colour palette with shades of blush pink and cream. The lush flowers by Liz of Blue Sky Flowers in these colours echoed the surrounding gardens.”
“The Morden Hall interior inspired the use of pastel blue as a contrast and we used their armchairs for the main table-scape with touches of blue in the fabrics used. Our model was a ballerina which inspired me to incorporate flowing fabrics and movement. I used a hand-dyed pale blue silk runner draped across the voluminous blush satin tablecloth flowing away from the table to achieve this. I also created an escort card table with layers of flowing silk runners as a base for the printed name cards.”
How you thought it all went?
After months of planning, the shoot took the whole day to capture all the necessary images. It was definitely worth the hard work though. “The day of the shoot was very intense, with 10 people on location from 9AM till 6PM,” explains Eva. “A lot of suppliers were involved and they all wanted specific shots of their products, so we had a long shot list to go through.
“I was lucky to have a very experienced stylist on board, who really held the team together. We had professional models for the shoot who really enjoyed being in front of the camera and it was lovely to work with them. The day went really well, although even after two months of planning we still had unexpected problems, like the suit for our male model was too small so we had to rush to buy a new suit for him.”
