When it came to planning their wedding, Julia and Stephan had two things in mind - a beautiful church ceremony and a day full of fun and laughter. With guests travelling from across the country, creating the right atmosphere and choosing the right setting was key…
The Barn at Bury Court met all of the couple’s wants and needs entirely. “I loved the beauty of the barn and the fact that it barely needed any additional décor – just a few flowers,” explains Julia. The wedding Barn wasn’t the only thing the pair loved about the venue, they also loved the outdoors and the little features unique to the Barn. “The garden was beautiful and the little rooms that connected to the main room were also ideal for our day.”
A touch of pink
With a naturally beautiful venue, Julia was careful not to go overboard with the final touches. She dressed the venue simply, with pink hydrangeas, and gave guests mini jam jar favours, filled with honey. The couple also kept their littlest guests entertained with colouring books personalised for each child.
The pink tones of the day were reflected in the attire choices. Julia’s five bridesmaids wore pink gowns in complementary shades, while her husband-to-be teamed his navy suit with a blush pink tie. Julia opted for a classic look with a lace Pronovias gown, a veil and very special Jimmy Choo shoes!
An unfortunate accident
On the day of her summer wedding, Julia arrived at the church in her own car – a Mini Cooper, which was her ‘something blue.’ While she arrived at the ceremony with plenty of time, her brother-in-law didn’t have such as easy morning. “He forgot his suit and left it in the hotel in London,” says Julia. “He managed to get it back 30 minutes before the ceremony started in time for his reading. However, when he stood up to go to the front of the church his trousers tore!” she laughs.
With the pressures of the day over, Julia and Stephan – along with their families – could finally relax. The party enjoyed catering provided by Jacaranda, which included canapés, sparkling wine from their friend’s vineyard in France, and homemade cake, baked by Julia and Stephan.
When it came to designing their day, Julia and Stephan put their own spin on the traditional wedding by serving up their main meal in the evening. While guests had snacked on cake and canapés throughout the day, they got to enjoy a sit-down four-course meal at night. The fine feast was followed by an evening of dancing, which included an impressive waltz danced by the newlyweds.
Julia’s top tip:
“Make sure you take time to relax before the big-day. Go to bed early so you can get some sleep – I was so nervous that I only slept two hours. I wish I’d taken a sleeping pill!”
