Maria and Chris were looking for a countryside barn wedding venue to provide a relaxed and rustic feel for their wedding day. They found the perfect place for their spring wedding in Gaynes Park in Essex.
Picking the venue
When it came to finding a special place to tie the knot, Maria and Chris were already set on a rural barn venue. They just had to find the right one for them! "As soon as we arrived at Gaynes Park we could picture ourselves getting married there!" smiles Maria. "Even though it was a cold November day, the venue looked stunning! The location, layout of the buildings and attention to detail was everything we were looking for."
A relaxed and rustic feel
With the venue chosen, the happy couple began to plan the perfect laid-back and rustic wedding day.
"We both wanted our wedding to be relaxed and that is why we went for a natural, rustic feel. We wanted to stay clear of a colour scheme wedding, so instead we went for a natural palette," explains Maria. "We wanted a relaxed feel to our wedding so we didn't go over the top with the decorations. Gorgeous lace lamp shades hung from the beams of the Mill Barn; the chairs were decorated with lace bows and the tables had lace runners. The venue looked absolutely magical!"
The happy couple made certain to add elements of Maria's Russian background to their otherwise very English wedding. "We decorated with a few Russian dolls on the guest table and our favours were individual boxes filled with macarons and Russian doll keyrings. Our younger guests absolutely loved these!"
A touch of DIY
To get exactly the look they wanted on their wedding day, Maria and Chris decided to take a hands-on approach. "To make the wedding planning more fun we decided to make some of the decorations ourselves," says Chris. "The table plan we created from scratch from a vintage photo frame which we painted gold, floral backing paper, paper flowers and wooden Mr & Mrs Moore sign we had cut from plywood. The menus and ceremony cards we designed ourselves too and printed on petal paper."
The all-important dress
When it came to picking a dress, Maria wanted to stand out on her big today with a different style. "I first came across my dress during a Wedding Fair I went to with my maid of honour," explains Maria. "After searching online for various styles and booking a number of wedding dress shop appointments, I kept comparing all of the dresses to the one from the fair! I was always after a fitted mermaid-style dress. I didn't want anything that was seen regularly before!
The groomsmen followed the relaxed feel of the day with their outfit selection. "We opted for three-piece suits for the groomsmen instead of top and tails. We've researched different colour options and set our mind on light royal blue suits. They went perfectly with our colour palette."
The bridesmaid's dresses were beautiful and perfect for a spring wedding in a lovely shade of thyme green.
The perfect day…despite the weather
Maria and Chris had a wonderful wedding day at Gaynes Park and it was everything they had hoped, even if the weather did try to put a dampener on the day. "Our idea of a spring wedding suddenly changed when the weather forecast went from sunshine to heavy rain all day long!" says Chris. "We still had the most perfect wedding though and we didn't shy away from the outside photo shoot!"
Picking out a highlight of the day was easy for Maria. "The best part was marrying the person I'd like to spend the rest of my life with."
