Victoria and Jamie wanted to keep things simple on their wedding; all they wanted was for family and friends to have a great time and to enjoy fabulous food with their loved ones. Luckily, they found the perfect setting in which to party all night long…
Upwaltham Barns, in West Sussex, quickly became Victoria and Jamie’s favourite wedding venue. Not only was it beautiful, it also offered the best in service – with a fab wedding planning team and top-notch catering. “It was actually the Barn’s staff that won us over,” explains Victoria. “We fell in love with the venue as soon as we saw it but when we met the owners, Nicola and Tim, that was it.”
The fun factor
Another one of the perks of Upwaltham Barns was its natural beauty. With its natural brick walls, exposed beams, and pretty fairy lights, it oozed romantic ambience and charm. “We didn’t have to do too much, in terms of décor, at all,” says Victoria. Instead, the couple just added a few simple touches of their own, using a vintage-inspired pink and grey colour scheme. They also added a few quirky touches to up the fun factor of their big day. “Instead of favours, we had pots full of old toys on the tables along with card games and bubbles,” explains Victoria. “They allowed guests to have a bit of fun while waiting for their food,” she adds. The pair also opted for a Polaroid style guestbook – a definite winner among their guests!
Styled to perfection
When it came to their wedding attire, Victoria and Jamie were keen to go all out– dressing to suit their theme and their vintage wedding venue. Victoria chose a mermaid style dress embellished with sequins while Jamie dressed in a Ted Baker suit in blue, teamed with pink paisley ties and handkerchiefs. “Vicki’s dress was amazing – but Vicki made it look even better,” smiles Jamie. Victoria’s bridesmaid and flower girls dressed to reflect the colour scheme of the day – with her adult bridesmaid in grey and two flower girls in dusty pink.
Worth waiting for
Victoria and Jamie tied the knot on a Thursday in late March. Despite arriving well in time for the ceremony, Victoria ended up leaving Jamie waiting for over 30 minutes… unintentionally of course! “Vicki was waiting for the registrar upstairs and the registrar was waiting for her downstairs,” laughs Jamie. “No one communicated at all – which meant I was waiting for over 30 minutes for Vicki… and yes, there was a little panic setting in!”
A sociable affair
Despite the longer-than-planned wait, Victoria and Jamie’s ceremony went exactly to plan and it wasn’t long before they’d officially wed. The pair and their wedding guests went on to enjoy a laid-back drinks reception before tucking into a sociable wedding breakfast in the Barn. “We decided to have a hog roast, served on platters to each table, rather than a traditional three-course meal,” says Victoria. “Everyone loved it,” she adds. “The whole day was amazing. We just wish we could have had more time. It went by far too fast,” says Victoria.
