A barn wedding venue was top of the list when it came to Carrie and Michael’s wedding priorities. They wanted a relaxed, informal setting in which they could enjoy their special day with family and friends… ideally in the sunshine!
Head over heels
Having shortlisted a number of barns within their preferred region, Carrie and Michael arranged visits to see their top three. “We decided to visit The Barn at Bury Court even though it was a bit far away,” says Carrie. “As soon as we opened to door to the venue we fell in love with it. It was gorgeous,” she smiles.
To complement the chic barn setting and their summer wedding day, the couple opted for a pretty colour palette of peach and green. They styled the venue with peach, green and ivory lanterns, which hung from the beams, and choose tree-like centrepieces for their table décor. “We had vases covered with bark with flowers blooming from the top,” explains Carrie. The pair also got creative with a little DIY – creating artificial peach leaves to write their guest names on. Keen to remember those close to them who’d passed away recently, the couple left a quote about giving and sharing at each place setting, written on a small bark block. They also left Cancer Research charity pins for the guest favours.
Pretty in pink
With a pretty wedding theme it was only right that Carrie dressed in a pretty blush wedding dress to celebrate her day. She teamed her beautiful gown with a pearl headband and veil. Michael also embraced the peach tones of the day with a three-piece suit, peach bow tie, braces, and a peach pocket square. The bridesmaids and rest of the groom’s party wore green, the other colour of the day.
Just as Carrie wished, the sun came out especially for her big-day. She arrived at The Barn at Bury Court in a vintage Rolls Royce and went on to celebrate in the venue’s beautiful gardens. “During our drinks reception guests could mingle outdoors, have fun, and enjoy the grounds and the string trio we hired for the day,” smiles Carrie. The couple opted for summer canapés and Pimms for their drinks reception, as well as corona and amaretto with cranberry, fruit juice and peach squash.
The reception was only a taster of the delights to come. “The meal was wonderful too,” says Carrie. The couple opted for a Greek salad starter, a ham hock, chicken and broccoli pie for their main, and a choice of lemon meringue or raspberry middle and blackcurrant bavarois for dessert. Come evening, the guests indulged in yet more food – this time, freshly cooked pizza and wedding cake.
Time to celebrate
When the guests weren’t sampling the fine foods of the day they were soaking up the fab entertainment the couple had arranged. “Our evening band got everyone dancing and everyone loved the mini golf,” smiles Carrie. “We also had a sparkler send off – a fantastic finale to a full and fun packed day,” she adds. “The whole day was simply perfect.”
Carrie’s top tip:
“Make the most of every moment. At the end of our wedding we just wished we’d had more hours to enjoy the day!”
