Right from the moment Nikki and David began planning their wedding, they knew the most important factor was having a good time. A relaxed environment, fun atmosphere and fabulous food was key…
Contemporary and chic
From the moment the couple arrived at Rivervale Barn they knew it would be right for their wedding. “We loved the fact it was a contemporary barn rather than rustic. It was light and airy with beautiful windows that filled the rooms with natural light,” explains Nikki. To top the experience off, the wedding team were great too! “The whole team were friendly and willing to go above and beyond to make sure the day was special to us and exactly what we wanted,” she smiles.
The great thing about a contemporary barn is that anything goes. The couple were free to style the venue in any way they wanted, knowing that it would look good. As Nikki was born in Africa, the couple decided on an African theme, featuring colourful, cultural designs across table names, candle holders and napkin rings. Wedding tables were named after African animals, while the flowers used throughout their styling showcased African sunset colours. The rich red, yellow and orange colour palette was also fitting for the couple’s autumnal wedding day.
Keen to personalise her day, Nikki opted for a custom made gown, designed by Nicola-Anne bridal. The final design was strapless, with a ruched bodice, lace skirt, and buttons that ran down the back. Her groom, Dave, wore traditional grey tails with an ivory waistcoat and burgundy cravat - for that burst of colour. Nikki’s bridesmaids also wore burgundy, but teamed the colour with lace detail.
Getting ready with her bridesmaids was one of the highlights of the day as the girls took over Rivervale’s Pamper Room, where they got made up for the day. “After hair and make up I got dressed in the cottage and then just popped over to the barn to get married!” laughs Nikki.
The wedding feast
Once the two had tied the knot, it was time for the real celebrations to start. The couple wanted good food – and they certainly got it with Galloping Gourmet’s feast! After munching on a variety of canapés, post-ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a three-course wedding breakfast. They opted for a pork spring roll starter, herb encrusted lamb main, and a trio of desserts – chocolate brownie, seasonal crème brulee, and lemon torte. In the evening, the guests also tucked into a hog roast – ensuring nobody went home hungry!
Comic book romance
Like most weddings, Nikki and David’s special day came with a few comedy moments – mostly planned by David! “Dave and his best men all had super hero t shirts on under their suits - which they ripped out during the photographs!” laughs Nikki. Of course, David made sure to get suited and booted again before the couple’s first dance to Running, by James Bay.
“We absolutely loved our day. Guests had fun and were well fed. Dave and I managed to have a few moments together throughout the day, to talk and take in the events, and then we danced the night away!” smiles Nikki.
