With Hazel and Chris’ wedding priorities including a live band and a bouncy castle, there was no doubt that their wedding day would be a whole lot of fun. With a selection of fun filled touches in mind, the couple sought a friendly and relaxed venue – to complement a laid-back wedding day.
Let’s go outside
Hazel and Chris had a guest list of 70 and so wanted a venue that was spacious but not too large. “We didn’t want everyone feeling lost in the venue,” explains Hazel. The couple were also keen to tie the knot outdoors – so a venue with an outdoor license was also high on their list of priorities. “Because of its outdoor gazebo, we decided to shortlist Mythe Barn,” says Hazel. “A friend recommended we visit the venue in person as the website didn’t do it justice. She was right – the venue was beautiful.”

Made with love
Mythe Barn’s blank canvas was perfect for Hazel and Chris. It was beautiful enough without any décor but allowed for lots of personalisation too. The couple styled the venue using their colour scheme of blue, purple and silver with lots of references to their shared passion for gaming. The ceremony room was decorated with fairy lights and wicker lights in blue and purple. Much of the rest of the décor was DIY-ed. Hazel made all the bouquets and buttonholes by hand and the couple teamed up to design their own table name settings, table plan and signage. Hazel and Chris unleashed their inner geek too, with their table decorations and wedding cake all following an awesome gaming theme.

Something blue
The couple’s chic colour scheme was reflected in their attire too. Chris wore a grey morning suit with navy cravat and silver detailed waistcoat, while Hazel dressed in traditional ivory with a pop of blue. “I teamed my full-length, ivory lace Enzoani gown with navy blue shoes from Debenhams,” she says. “My shoes were also my something blue.” Hazel’s five bridesmaids wore plum multiway dresses and silver shoes. “They all looked so beautiful,” she smiles.

Rustic romance
On the morning of her wedding, Hazel arrived bright and early at Mythe Barn to get ready. As a special treat, her father had arranged Rolls Royce hire so that Hazel and her mum could be transported in style.
Unfortunately for Hazel and Chris, the unreliable British weather meant that they weren’t able to exchange vows outdoors, but luckily the beautiful Oak Barn was ready to provide the perfect (and dry) setting! “It went perfectly but Chris struggled to get the ring on my finger,” she laughs. “I had moisturised my hands so much that Chris couldn’t get a good grip!” Hazel also got her younger brothers to do the readings during the ceremony. “We had chosen A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton, but my brother changed parts of it to reflect our personalities. It made the service personal and made everyone laugh,” smiles Hazel.

Time to celebrate
An outdoor drinks reception followed with canapés including mini shepherd’s pies, risotto balls and spring duck. Guests got adventurous on the bouncy castle too with Chris impressing everyone with his backflip tricks.

Wedding feast
Once guests had exhausted themselves with all the activities outside, a wedding breakfast was served. Rather than serving one option, guests were offered a choice of three menu items. Mains ranged from rib-eye steak to ratatouille stuffed aubergine and burgundy chicken while pudding choices included sticky toffee pudding, vanilla cheesecake and chocolate brownie.

Hit the dancefloor
Hazel and Chris’ evening party was all about having a good time. Hazel got her wish for a live band with The Smooth Criminals putting on a performance. They even played the couple’s first dance song, Accidentally in Love by Counting Crows. “It was amazing,” smiles Hazel. “We had choreographed a dance routine – which everyone seemed to love,” she adds. “We just wish there was more time to enjoy the day. It flew by so fast.”
