Even before Garry had popped the question, Micaela knew exactly where she wanted to get wed. With the beautiful Sandhole Oak Barn just a few miles away from her home, Micaela had long dreamed of a wonderful celebration there with family and friends.
Shortly after the couple’s engagement, Micaela booked a show around at Sandhole Oak Barn. While she already had a good idea of what the venue looked like, she wasn’t expecting as beautiful a setting as she found. “The venue was more beautiful that we could have ever imagined,” smiles Micaela. “In fact, I booked it right away – just 10 days after getting engaged!” she laughs.
The natural touch
With the barn already designed to perfection, Micaela and Garry were keen to highlight all its natural beauty. They hung lanterns and fairy lights, taking inspiration from wedding photos they’d seen at the barn, and added a rustic touch to their tables, using natural materials. They used tree logs as their centrepieces and freshly picked flowers from their garden on all of the tables. The pair also stuck to a chic and neutral colour scheme – despite Garry’s wish for Manchester United red. “I decided to use a dusky pink colour throughout the décor but did let Garry name the wedding tables after his favourite football players – after much discussion!” laughs Micaela.
Even though the pair were quick to sort their venue, finding the perfect wedding dress proved to be a lot harder. After months of searching, Micaela eventually chose an Amanda Wyatt ball gown with a drop waist, illusion neckline and detailed bodice. “I never imagined I’d choose a dress quite like it but it was perfect,” smiles Micaela. “On the day, I felt like a princess – just like every bride should,” she adds. Her four bridesmaids looked beautiful too, in dusky pink gowns to complement the venue décor. “Their dresses really highlighted the beauty of the barn and looked gorgeous on them,” smiles Micaela.
A day to remember
Micaela and Garry tied the knot at Sandhole Oak Barn in late March – with Micaela arriving fashionably late, despite giving herself optimum preparation time. “We arrived really early in the morning to get ready on-site – but I still ended up being late,” laughs Micaela.
With the nerves of the ceremony over, the couple headed outside to celebrate their marriage with singing waiters providing their reception entertainment. “I always knew I wanted to have singing waiters after being impressed by them at another friend’s wedding,” says Micaela. “They started our party in style and created such a fun atmosphere. We were shocked at how quick everyone was to dance and sing along with them,” laughs Micaela.
The couple’s wedding menu was just as fun – with classic choices and palate pleasers bound to impress everyone. The wedding breakfast featured a roast chicken main and a trio of deserts, including apple crumble, chocolate brownie and New York cheesecake. Later that night, guests were treated to fish and chips and burgers and fries – classic food that Micaela and Garry love. “The meals tasted sublime,” says Micaela. “After the food tasting, we knew Sue Le Bonne Caterers were for us.”
Micaela and Garry’s celebrations went on right into the night with the couple impressing all their guests with their first dance. Being huge fans of The Courteeners, the pair decided to spin around the dance floor to Take Over The World, despite it not being the most traditional of choices. “I just wish we could have stopped the clock so we could have had a few more hours to share our special day,” smiles Micaela. “Everything went by far too quickly.”
