Everyone knows that just before your special day you want a few days respite from all that wedding admin (aka wedmin). Whether it’s a digital detox, or a break from the flowers and the vows, we have carefully selected a list of our favourite hotels - perfect for a pre-wedding getaway.
The Foodie One
Les Sources De Caudalie Hotel and Spa, Bordeaux and the Dordogne
Situated in the peaceful surroundings of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyards, at Les Sources De Caudalie there are two restaurants. One of which, La Grand'Vigne, is set in a former orangery and is perfect for dining al fresco on the terrace. Providing hearty traditional French cuisine in the style of tapas, accompanied by the wide Bordeaux wine selection, you are spoilt for choice here when it comes to food. The treatments used in the spa are unique in that they use products of the wine-making process and include therapies such as a Merlot wrap, a Sauvignon massage or a crushed Cabernet scrub.
The Cultured One
Aman Canal Vende, Venice
Located in one of the oldest districts in Venice, San Polo, overlooking the Grand Canal, Aman Canal Vende renaissance building is perfectly placed for exploring the ‘floating city’s infamous sights. Being within walking distance of the Rialto Bridge, the Church of San Giacomo di Rialto (supposedly the oldest in the city) and the Campo San Polo, if you are a couple who want to immerse yourselves in culture and forget about the pre-wedding stresses, this is the place for you. Plus, it really doesn’t get any more romantic than Venice.
The Fashionable One
Firmdale One Bedroom Soho Suite, London
We are huge fans of the Firmdale hotels, especially the Soho hotel situated in the heart of London’s entertainment neighbourhood. Stay in their one bedroom Soho suite and absorb London’s buzz, with floor to ceiling windows and doors leading onto two terraces and sweeping views of the London skyline from both sides of the hotel. The bathroom is luxuriously designed in marble, with a large walk-in shower and double basins. It really is the fashionable place to stay.
The Laidback One
Little Palm Island, Florida Keys
A resort only accessible by seaplane or boat, and blissfully TV and phone free, makes Little Palm Island the ideal place to retreat to for some down time before the big day – exactly what you need. Ban that ever-ringing phone and get your desperately needed digital detox. Even the signature cocktail is named 'Gumpy Slumber' - rather fitting.
The Hot One
Petit St Vincent, Caribbean
Hot in the literal sense, this private island resort of Petit St Vincent has everything you could wish for on your sun-seeking pre-wedding getaway. With endless sandy beaches and total exclusion from the rest of the world, you will be able to warm each and every one of your bones. Each guest has their own cottage set amongst the beaches, hillsides, cliffs, and coves of the 115 acre retreat. It doesn’t get much better than that.
The Grand One
Set at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the centre of Ireland, Ballyfin is a place of history and romance, of tranquillity and great natural beauty. The Westmeath Room is especially ornate and grand, exquisitely decorated in richly patterned wallpaper with a wonderfully carved French bed positioned prominently in the centre of room. Staying here, it would be impossible not to feel like royalty.
The Quirky One
Areias do Seixo, Portugal
The quirky hotel Areias do Seixo is located just an hour from Lisbon and is jam-packed with mismatched furniture, blackboard walls and beds on wheels. Sounds bizarre, but all this strangeness has created somewhere so unique and special, your pre-wedding escape would be anything but ordinary. They even supply special activities for couples, such as dining beneath pine trees, beside the lake, or perhaps a romantic dinner for two in your candlelit bedroom.
