Available in so many shades, from deep burgundy red to a softer, pale hue, be sure to choose a tone that suits you and the season of your wedding. Let’s take a look at a few of our favourite designs. It’s time to get colourful!

A colour so often associated with love, it’s not surprising that red is often chosen as part of a wedding colour scheme. Generally used sparingly, perhaps in flowers or as an accent shade for ribbon, table decorations and cake details, it’s a bold shade that makes a statement. If you’d like to take that statement one step further, consider wearing red shoes and accessories. And… one step further than that, confident brides might decide to wear a red wedding dress.

The Showstopper

If Vera designs red dresses, it must be a great colour choice! Let’s start with the queen of bridal and this dreamy gown from Vera Wang. A simple, elegantly structured bodice with fairy-tale skirt, this is an unforgettable dress. It needs an equally stunning venue and would be a great choice for a historical setting or stately home.

The Evening Gown

Red is a wonderful option for an evening wedding, and we particularly love the ‘Daisy’ gown by Eliza Jane Howell. Its intricate beading would look mesmerizing after dark, and the 1920s style lends itself to both contemporary and more traditional venues.

The Winter Gown

If you are planning a winter or evening wedding, it can be wise to choose a dress with sleeves. ‘Giovanna’ by Eliza Jane Howell oozes elegance, with a sheer lace sleeve and flattering cut. Such an intricate fabric speaks for itself and needs very little in terms of accessories.

The Fabulous Train

A dramatic gown doesn’t always require an equally bold setting. Sometimes, it’s best to let the dress stand out amongst a less formal scene. This bride has chosen a simple, hand-tied bouquet and keeps her hair down – perfect for an outdoor wedding. She also carries the only red flowers and is surrounded by pretty white blooms.

The Quirky Choice

If you’re planning a 1950s style wedding, red is a great colour choice. And, when it comes to a dress style, look no further than Candy Anthony who specialises in vintage style short dresses. This is a real favourite of ours, complete with red petticoats. Always complete the look with suitably wonderful shoes and a hair accessory. If you’re going to be bold, carry it through!

The Dress for Blondes

Highlighting how the shades of red can vary, we’re back to another trend-setting design from Vera Wang. Here, a brighter hue looks fantastic with a paler skin tone and blonde hair.

The Prom Dress

For a less formal wedding, red gives you the opportunity to look away from dresses designed specifically for weddings. This ‘Fergie’ strapless dress from Forever Unique can be accessorised with nude shoes, or taken up a gear with red shoes and a hair accessory.

The Contemporary Choice

For city style, keep it elegant, straight and just below the knee. This ‘Audrey’ lace dress from Monsoon is a real find at £169 and certainly something you would wear again.

And finally…

If you’re not quite ready to brave the red dress, how about choosing red petticoats? We love this splash of colour, accompanied by red party shoes.
