Wedding dresses by Amanda Wakeley

The Amanda Wakeley label is one of Britain’s best. Amanda’s designs are well known for their clean lines, exceptional silhouettes and perfect fit. There’s an effortless chic about Amanda Wakeley wedding dresses and each and every gown is just perfectly made.

Founded in 1990, Amanda has dressed some of the most famous women in the world including Diana, Princess of Wales, Beyonce and Angelina Jolie amongst others. She was awarded an OBE in 2010 and her gowns are showcased at stockists right around the world.

Amanda says that she adores fabrics and beautifully crafted clothes and you can absolutely see this in her wedding dress designs. The combination of fabrics and embellishments is just fantastic and the attention to detail is just outstanding. Amanda Wakeley wedding dresses really are something special.

So, let’s take a look at the gowns themselves shall we? Amanda says that her goal is to create ‘beautifully flattering bridal dresses that blend timeless elegance with contemporary design’ and you can see that straight away in the Phoebe wedding dress. The elegant, almost Grecian front is teamed with a gorgeous open back, cut with gorgeous silver beads. There’s also the ethereal, graceful Maya gown and we love the light chiffon, the vintage-inspired beading and dramatic V-neck.

There are also some really eye-catching designs in the collection too. We just have to mention Lorelei – a short mini-dress layered with a delicate lace overskirt – and the totally backless Hemera dress. Both are brave choices but would be perfect if you’re looking to make a bridal statement.

However, if you’re lusting after a more traditional wedding dress, there are plenty in the Amanda Wakeley collection for you too. Ivy, in silk Mikado, has a huge skirt and a gorgeous bodice that’s covered in Art Deco inspired embellishments. Helena is another timeless design with a figure-hugging bodice that flows into a trained skirt. We can’t get enough of the detailing on the cap sleeves here and that neckline – wow!

Styling your Amanda Wakeley wedding dress

The Amanda Wakeley wedding dress collection is incredibly diverse so whatever your wedding style or season, there’ll be a gown here for you. If you’re a summer bride or if you’re marrying at a pretty country barn, you’ll need a light, almost unstructured gown. Alice would be ideal as would Alexandra – those layers of silk tulle are just heaven!

City chic brides need to make a stylish statement and again, Amanda Wakeley has just what you need. The bias-cut Esme has the most amazing back detail and a tiny train that’s oh-so elegant with a touch of antique-inspired glamour. Another of our favourites is Alexis – it’s sophisticated and just a little bit sexy with a front split in the skirt and a figure-skimming design.

Winter brides will also be able to find the perfect gown here too. Colette and Evangeline are just a couple of the dresses that come with long sleeves but the real statement piece is definitely Alberta. This silk Mikado bridal coat has a glorious train, a large collar and it’s dramatic and elegant in the extreme.
