With plenty of amazing options out there for your wedding stationery, it goes without saying that the winners of the Wedding Stationery of the Year category at The Wedding Industry Awards 2017 must be producing something pretty special! We met up with Wendy Lewis, the co-founder of The Foil Invite Company who specialise in luxurious and timeless foil-printed stationery to see what makes them stand out from the crowd.
So how did you get started creating wedding stationery?
"My husband and I have run a design studio since 2005 and wedding stationery was something we got asked for by our family and friends. The first invitations we produced were for my brother's wedding and featured blue foil love birds, which I guess is where it all began!”
Why did you choose to work with foil and how does it work?
"Hot foiling is a finish that is perfect for wedding stationery! The beautiful metallic shine makes our products feel luxurious and extra special while still being personal and handmade."
"It's a traditional artisan method of hand printing. A metal plate is engraved with and design, then we heat the block press it firmly onto the card with a sheet of coloured foil sandwiched between the two. The finished result is a card branded with a beautiful metallic finish!"
So how do couples go about getting your wedding stationery?
"We've made sure that our website is really user-friendly, so much so that we even picked up the award for Best Website at TWIA 17!" Couples can see all of our designs as well as the range of metallic foil colours that we can use so they know exactly what is possible. We also have our showroom and workshop in Chester so people can book an appointment, come and check out our products for themselves and see our printing process in action."
"We love working with people to help them create their own designs too and can offer a bespoke service so that couples can have exactly the look they want for their wedding stationery. We will provide plenty of help and guidance from the concept stage to achieve the very best finished results with their ideas."
How did it feel to receive the Wedding Stationery of the Year award?
It was an incredible evening at the Wedding Industry awards; the atmosphere was electric! When The Foil Invite Company was called out as winners of Best Wedding Stationery 2017 we actually screamed! As if that wasn't enough we were even more blown away when not long after our name was called out again as winners of the award for Best Website in the Industry!
When should brides and grooms start sorting out their wedding stationery?
"Every wedding is different and so are the timescales. If you are getting married during the busy summer period or are having a destination wedding you will probably want to give your guests a bit more notice. As a rough guide though I'd say save the dates are normally ordered a year before the big day, invitations six months ahead and on the date wedding stationery a month beforehand. Having said that with everything wedding related, the sooner you can get things ticked off your list the less stressful it will be!"
Do you have any predictions for upcoming wedding stationery trends?
"Pistachio green, navy, bright and bold florals and matte foils all look set to become very popular. The trend for geometric patterns, rose gold foil and calligraphy fonts also show no sign of slowing down either!"
What's next for the Foil Invite Company?
"We have so many ideas in the pipeline there just aren't enough hours in the day! We have an exciting new range of designs in development which are due to launch this summer and in the long term we would love to have more print equipment in-house to expand the range of finishes we can offer to couples."
"We are immensely proud of what we've achieved so far, particularly this year's success at the Wedding Industry Awards, and we are dedicated to making sure we keep offering the best customer service and quality wedding stationery that's both on trend and timeless."
