We love a good road trip at CHWV and recently we got to head to the countryside to meet Shropshire Petals; a family-run natural petal confetti company whose colourful combinations will brighten up your wedding day perfectly! We took a trip to their farm in Newport, Shropshire and met Ashley, who showed us how it all works and took us to see the amazing flower fields.
We started our visit in the petal shed, which was full of petals in all shapes and sizes and in a myriad of colours. There were vats of rose buds, azure cornflowers and bold calendulas to name but a few!
Ashley informed us that it was here where the team created their wonderful array of pre-mixed confetti, as well any bespoke mixes that brides and grooms can dream up.
"We know how important getting the right colour of confetti is for couples so we make it as easy as possible for people to create their own blend from all of our different varieties. They can do it online with our pick and mix confetti creator or just give us a call and we'll help them find the best option to suit their day," said Ashley.
There was a mix to suit any theme and colour scheme and while we loved them all, we think My Fair Lady, a blend of purple, lilac and cream delphiniums, was our favourite! It would be perfect for a vintage themed wedding day.
It wasn't just the petals that came in all shapes and sizes, but the packaging too. From individual sachets to confetti pops to give your day a burst of colour, and even giant balloons filled with your favourite mix, Shropshire Petals seem to have thought of everything!
While we were there, an urgent order came in for a wedding in just a couple of days so we thought it would be a good time to let the team get cracking and go and explore the flower fields.
As we arrived, we were met with vast swathes of colours swaying in the breeze. A spectrum of delphiniums from light pink to deep purple stretched out before us next to bright orange calendulas and vivid blue cornflowers. As we drove between the rows of flowers, teams of pickers were hard at work filling crates with beautiful blooms.
"All of our flowers are hand-picked by our amazing team," explained Ashley. "That way we ensure that only the best quality and most vibrant petals make it into our confetti. Then they are all dried, sorted and ready to use!"
All the confetti that Shropshire Petals produce is completely natural and biodegradable, meaning that you don't have to worry about using it on your wedding day. Some venues won't allow artificial confetti so it's good to know that you won't find any dyes or any funny stuff. Just beautiful dried flowers and nothing else!
Ashley did a spot of picking while we were there to show us how it was done and gave us some top confetti tips too.
"Our dried petals will keep for ages so we generally recommend couples order confetti three or four months before the wedding. That way people can tick it off their list nice and early," advised Ashley. "We even offer a free confetti sample service to help couples make up their minds."
"We know that it might be a bit tricky for brides and grooms to work out how much confetti they need on the day so we've added a handy little confetti calculator to our site to help them work it out."
