So we're sure you've all seen our cool little video where we created lots of DIY Wedding Cakes For Under £100 but if you haven't you're in for a treat! Make sure you check it out here when you get the chance.
As the name suggests, it's full of different ideas that you can use to create your own wedding cake style and all for less than a hundred quid. We picked up three tiers of amazing sponge cake from Marks and Spencer, which only cost us £54, leaving our willing participants £46 to spend on whatever decorations they wanted to make their cake stand out!
Sabrina was first to take on the challenge and she picked out two bouquets of flowers and a bunch of artificial peonies, as well as a teacup and saucer and a couple of mugs to give her cake a couple of quirky and colourful styles. She also used a clear glass cake stand to make her DIY wedding cakes really stand out!
For all the tea lovers!
To start with, Sabrina cut a couple of the artificial flowers down to size and sat them on the tea cup and saucer, using it as a quirky topper for her cake. She then used the Mr Right and Mrs Always Right mugs to decorate the table and give her cake a humorous touch. Simple but effective, this two tier DIY wedding cake would be great for any tea-lover or quintessentially English wedding, and only cost a minuscule £73!
A classic floral style
Next Sabrina took her white and cream bouquet, which was made up of cream roses, gypsophila and white chrysanthemums. She separated the flowers and cut the stems so that they would balance on the cake. These flowers would be ideal for a classic wedding style, especially in the spring as they provide a fresh and romantic look. Just £72 for this three tiered cake including the cake stand!
Bursting with colour
For a vibrant and colourful look, Sabrina swapped out the white flowers for a bouquet full of reds and yellows. This colourful bunch contained gerbera, roses and hypericum berries and would be a beautiful addition to a summer wedding, giving your DIY wedding cake a pop of colour! Again, just £72 for a wedding cake that can serve up to 70 people!
One of the best things about creating your own wedding cake (other than the amazing price of course) is that you can do whatever you please and aren't restricted to a certain style. These floral and quirky designs can easily be mixed together and you can do whatever you want with the decorations. Why not use just the petals instead of the whole flowers? Or bring in some garden roses, cornflowers or sweet peas for that quintessentially English garden look? The possibilities are endless!
