Let’s face it - we all love IKEA. But did you know that with a little bit of DIY magic, you can transform some of those wonderful Scandinavian products into stunning wedding decorations?
We wanted to show you just how easy it is to create your own Ikea wedding hacks, so we decided to make a video of us doing it! Luckily for us, Perfect Day Production were on hand to film it all and make it look great! We’re no expert crafters or DIY wizards, and we were amazed at how simple it was to create centrepieces and decorations that really looked the part.
To make things even better, you can save yourself a great deal by creating some of these beauties. Everyone knows how low Ikea’s prices can be, so all you need is a bit of imagination and some craft supplies and you’ll be whipping up your own budget friendly wedding decorations in no time!
Take a look at our Ikea wedding hacks video and see what you think, we hope you enjoy watching it as much we enjoyed making it!
Pretty cool, huh? And so easy too!
It turned out that a lot of the products that we thought were ripe for customising were in the kitchen department. The Korken range of flip-top bottles and jars were particularly useful as the simple glass products were really simple to personalise, and very well priced too!
The Borrby lantern that we used only cost us £7 and worked nicely with the unfussy look that we were going for. There are plenty more to choose from though so you could find one to fit any style.
We made full use of a range of departments, including the plants and food section. We picked up the bamboo stems for a dash of greenery and, although we managed to resist the meatballs, we couldn’t help grabbing some Kafferep biscuits to use as favours and a fun centrepiece!
For our supplies, we picked up everything we needed from Hobbycraft. If you’re new to using spray paint, make sure you practice before getting stuck into your Ikea hacks to avoid disappointment. Also, don’t forget your gloves and a mask, as well as something to protect the surface you’re using. There’s plenty of colours out there to choose from, but we went gold for a timeless bit of sparkle.
The washi tape we used followed the metallic theme too, but again there are lots on offer to work with any theme or colour scheme. This hack was so simple but was really effective when finished and the candles were lit.
After we’d finished all the Ikea hacking, we wanted to show you just how your decorations could look on the day, so we took a trip to Sandhole Oak Barn and set up a table. This beautiful barn wedding venue in Cheshire was full of light on the day and has a delightful, natural feel to it, which we thought worked perfectly with the glass and gold touches.
We hope that our Ikea wedding hacks inspire you to give it a go yourself and get creative with your decorations. Remember, there are thousands of different things that you could use out there so let your imagination run wild!
