Angela and Praj decided there was no point hanging around to get married. Instead, they set a date for just three months time – giving themselves only 12 weeks to plan their big day.
Morden Hall, in London, was the couple’s first choice with availability on their chosen wedding date. With its modern interior and stylish London charm, it provided the perfect backdrop for their day. The 125 acres of National Park Trust parkland – which surrounded the venue – was another perk, providing a romantic setting for all the couple’s wedding photos.
Despite having only a short time to plan the wedding, Angela knew she wanted to DIY her big day. “I had to pick all our DIY projects carefully,” she explains. “I knew there wasn’t really any time to get hung up on minor details or become attached to projects we couldn’t complete on time or to budget,” she adds. With this in mind, the couple created their own simple yet effective décor, handcrafting everything from wedding favours to the seating plan. “We designed mugs for all our guests, created golden oyster shell name cards and made a pretty floral seating plan,” explains Angela. “We also sourced all our wedding flowers from the local flower market,” she adds.
Simple floral design was also central to the couple’s big day décor. Pretty white flowers and rustic green foliage were combined on tables and in wild flower bouquets, setting the scene for the romantic day ahead. “We created green and gold table settings using eucalyptus leaves and gold candlesticks and lanterns,” explains Angela. “Of course, we couldn’t do it alone,” she smiles. “The whole wedding was a collaboration of efforts by our nearest and dearest.”
The family affair saw Angela’s bridesmaid create all the wedding signage, as well as the couple’s wedding cake, and her auntie help create the floral arrangements. “My auntie Sheila also made us a giant word search, which all our guests were loving during cocktail hour,” adds Angela.
Show stopping affair
Angela and Praj enjoyed a classic spring wedding, with both a ceremony and reception at Morden Hall. Angela wowed all her guests in a beautiful Oscar De La Renta dress while Praj looked dapper in a classic black tuxedo. The rest of the wedding party included a touch of burgundy in their attire, with the groomsmen donning burgundy bow ties and bridesmaid in mismatched burgundy gowns.
True love story
Angela also changed up her look, just in time for the evening’s events. Her corseted traditional gown was replaced with a modern and whimsical ball gown – perfect for partying in. “Everything about the wedding and the run-up to our big day was straight forward and pleasant,” smiles Angela. “Also, as friends and family took on so many parts of the day for us, there were lots of little surprises for us to enjoy on the day.”
