A breathtaking barn wedding venue had always been the top priority for Beth and James' wedding day, and it was simply a question of finding the right one to suit them. A relaxed and warm atmosphere was a must, as well was a charming and pretty venue. The happy couple found exactly what they were looking for in Upwaltham Barns, an amazing wedding venue in West Sussex that is a truly idyllic place to tie the knot.
Finding ‘the one'
The pair visited the venue on a non-stop wedding planning weekend where they visited six venues in just two days. Despite having seen a number of different barn venues, it was clear that Upwaltham Barns was ‘the one'. Beth and James fell in love with the separate ceremony and reception spaces which accommodated all their plans and were also in bowled over by the charming Moroccan Snug. The awe-inspiring country surroundings were another huge selling point and provided plenty of options for the couple's wedding photographs.
"The rolling hills of the South Downs offered the perfect setting for our day," says Beth. "Also, Tim and Nicola, the owners, were so welcoming and friendly it made making our decision even easier."
Styling Upwaltham Barns
Beth and James were keen to bring their wedding decoration ideas to life and add a personal touch to this wonderful venue. They asked all their closest family members to contribute to the décor for the day, with parents, uncles and aunties all playing a role. Beth's auntie made beautiful bunting while her mum made the couple's delicious wedding cake. James' green-fingered step-mum played a key role too by creating all the bouquets, buttonholes and flower arrangements for the wedding table decorations. The couple's décor had a delightful rustic village feel with pretty flowers, handmade details, and lace and ribbon embellished jam jars adorning the tables.
"Decorating the venue was a real family affair!" smiles Beth. "We have a lot of talented relatives who helped us make our day personal."
Dressing for the occasion
Beth's looked incredible on the couple's special day, wearing a full A-line skirt decorated with lots of sparkle and plenty of pearls. She paired her stunning gown with shoes from Jenny Packham and finished her look with a vintage vine in her hair.
James certainly looked the part too, dressing to impress in a three-piece cobalt blue suit from French Connection. He complemented the suit and the colour scheme with a bright pink tie and pocket square and finished off his look with a smart pair of brogues.
The wedding day
Beth and James enjoyed a beautiful June wedding day at Upwaltham Barns, with Beth arriving bright and early to get ready on-site in the luxurious yet relaxing Jasmine Cottage. The couple tied the knot in the light-filled East Barn before celebrating with a drinks reception outside in the picturesque courtyard.
High-quality entertainment was a must for the couple's big day, and they went all out to ensure their guests were amused. James even managed to include a little surprise – a secret project he'd been working on for two years. As he worked in TV, James managed to get a few celebrities to record good luck messages and played their good wishes on the day! The pair also provided a fun photo booth, which ensured guests were entertained all night long.
James and Beth had a wonderful day at this idyllic wedding venue in West Sussex. The highlight of their day, however, has to be the final dance where they were lifted up in the air together by their guests. The two ended the night here with a kiss above their guests – the perfect way to end a spectacular wedding.
"Our day was so perfect and more than we could've ever imagined! We just wish that we could repeat it all over again!" says Beth.
If the happy couple could give any advice to those soon-to-be newlyweds, it would be this:
"Take advantage of all the fantastic facilities at Upwaltham Barns," says Beth. "I got ready at the unique Jasmine Cottage, which meant the morning of the wedding was stress-free. Also, take the time to soak up the atmosphere – the day goes by faster than you could imagine!"
