The Venue Vibes
On the hunt for a picturesque venue serving fabulous food, Caroline and Christopher fell in love with Rivervale Barn from the moment they drove down the driveway.
“We loved how beautiful the venue looked from the inside and out,” smiles Caroline. ‘’The spacious interior and rustic barn with a contemporary edge was right up our street. Nowhere else we had seen came close!”
Theme of the Day
When looking online for inspiration, the happy couple loved the rustic barn style and decided to create that look for their wedding.
“Caroline is a huge Disney fan and we got engaged in Disneyland Paris,” explains Christopher. “We combined both elements and would describe our wedding as an elegant rustic barn theme with a hint of Disney!”
Creativity and Colour
With their March wedding date, Caroline and Christopher adopted spring colours for their celebration, focusing on peach.
“Peach was a good fit for the time of year without being too vibrant to take away the natural beauty of the venue.” Says Caroline.
The creative couple painted the order of the day on to an old pallet and made the table plan using a wooden garden decoration. On the tables, cream ceramic jugs and bird cages were used for floral arrangements and Christopher and Caroline made the menus, place names and chalkboard.
Wonderful blooms including roses, tulips, gypsophila and other seasonal flowers created the finishing touch to the venue decoration, filling centerpieces and adorning the table plan and order of the day.
When it came to the bouquets, Caroline carried an arrangement of poppies, roses, tulips, ranunculus, paper whites, lisianthus, gypsophila and foliage, tied with ivory and Mickey Mouse shaped pins! Co-ordinating perfectly, the bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the same bouquet. Finally, Christopher’s buttonhole was in ivory and white, wrapped in twine and with the same Mickey Mouse pin.
All About the Dress
Caroline wore ‘Virginia’ by Phil Collins.
“It was perfect,” she smiles. “I liked the lace up back and the shape. It had the right amount of sparkle without being overpowering.”
When it came to accessories, Christopher gave Caroline a set of Swarovski jewellery as a wedding present, the pink crystals matching the pink sapphires and white diamonds in her engagement ring.
Caroline’s three bridesmaids wore peach floral dresses from Coast.
As for the Groom…
Christopher looked the part in a blue three-piece suit with peach floral tie. The groomsmen wore the same suits but with blue floral tie.
Time to Celebrate
Following their romantic ceremony, strawberry rose sangria and elderflower mocktails were served alongside a delicious selection of canapés. Rebecca McGrath from Melisma Music delighted guests by playing the harp during the ceremony and drinks reception.
For the wedding breakfast, tomato soup was served for starter followed by fillet of beef with dauphinoise potatoes. And for pudding… a trio of deserts including triple chocolate brownie, lemon posset and vanilla cheesecake with raspberry coulis.
“It was all beautiful,” smiles Caroline. “The beef was the best we have tasted and the tomato soup was unlike any we’ve had before. We couldn’t believe how good something ‘simple’ could be!”
Let them Eat Cake
Christopher’s mother made a fabulous five-tier cake with each tier displayed at a different height. Decorated with white butterflies and roses, it was the perfect design for their spring wedding and the lemon sponge was simply delicious!
As The Sun Goes Down
As day turned to evening, the newlyweds danced their first dance to ‘Amazed’ by Lonestar.
Christopher’s Favourite Moment…
“Turning to watch Caroline walk down the aisle, and seeing her face when the registrar announced that we were husband and wife!”
