Clare and Rohan were looking for a beautiful setting to hold their spring wedding that would be fun and provide plenty of space for all their friends and family to enjoy themselves. They found the perfect venue in Bury Court Barn; a stunning traditional barn wedding venue in Surrey.
"We loved how rustic the venue was and that it's so beautiful before you even begin – it needs so little decoration! It's naturally beautiful and the team they are really professional yet so down to earth."
Choosing a style
The happy couple were keen to let the beauty of the venue shine out but also wanted to add a touch of personality to the day too.
"We used a rustic theme for our wedding day with lots of brown paper and string making up our decorations," explains Clare. "We both love the TV show ‘Friends' and have since we started dating so we decided to have a few elements on our day to represent that. Plus, all our friends are fans too!"
The couple, or rather one half of the couple, created plenty of their decorations from scratch too, with Rohan taking a hands-on approach.
"Rohan is the master of detail and there were evenings where he would spend hours making the seating plan, fun signs and wrapping string around beer bottles to create decorations," explains Clare. "My sister helped with our crisps and sweets pick ‘n' mix and my best friend wrote on chalkboards for the food. It was a real team effort!"
Dressing the part
When it came to finding an amazing dress, Clare found the perfect one…eventually!
"I bought a lightweight Sincerity dress with a sweetheart neckline, but my main aim was to feel free and be able to dance all night in it. I am very indecisive and my main criteria much to my mum's objections were that I needed to be able to dance in it!" explains Clare. "I thought I had found ‘the one' but then I kept seeing amazing dresses with long sleeves which are what I really wanted. I found one that I loved on the internet and found out that the same shop stocked, and what's more it was on sale! Now I have two dresses to sell, but I definitely made the right decision the second time around!"
An amazing day
After a wonderfully romantic ceremony in the barn, the couple enjoyed a drinks reception outside in the beautiful gardens. With the sun shining and cocktails in hand, everybody had a great time mingling. The atmospheric barn then became the setting for a mouth-watering hog roast wedding breakfast. The happy couple wanted to keep the feeling of the day relaxed, so the more casual food choice was ideal. Plus, it meant that no one was too full to hit the dance floor in the evening!
The live band kept everybody entertained and a cameo appearance from Rohan on guitar was the icing on the cake for Clare.
After such an unforgettable day at this stunning wedding venue in Surrey, we asked Clare if she had any advice to pass on to any soon-to-be newlyweds.
"Think about whether you need staged photos with family and friends, you could be drinking fizz instead! Photos are lovely to have and we are so glad we had the best photographers, but unless you plan to put them up the casual ones work really well too."
"I would also say that brides should take the time to do a speech too. I loved thanking all those people important to me and telling people all the reasons I love Rohan."
