When it came to their wedding day, Jim and Pete were looking for a setting that would provide a relaxed environment and an escape into the country from London for them and their guests. They found the ideal place in Manor Mews, one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Norfolk.
The Perfect Location
With the happy couple both having family in Norfolk, it was a logical choice of county to begin their search for a venue in. They With a number of places to choose from, Jim and Pete began looking for that laid-back country setting they had dreamed of. "Manor Mews was the first venue we saw and we fell in love with it straight away," says Jim. "We didn't realise how perfect it was until we went to see other venues and just kept comparing them to Manor Mews. It had had everything we wanted and more…not just for our wedding day but for the whole weekend."
Dressing The Venue
The couple wanted to let the beauty of the Manor Mews stand out, and with exposed brick walls, wooden beams and a ceiling covered in fairy lights, who could blame them! They did add a few touches, however, to make the place feel like their own. "We kept the decorations quite minimal in the venue as it looked stunning as it was," explains Pete. "We had large church candles in vases on the windowsills filled with sand from Gorleston beach where I grew up. We also had lanterns hanging from the beams with tea-light candles in."
To bring an element of fun to their big day, the couple went for an unusual take on their table decorations that encouraged their guests to get a little creative.
"We didn't want flowers so instead our centrepieces consisted of large glass vases filled with Lego and we invited our guests to build their own centrepieces. We were a little worried that people wouldn't bother but everyone loved it!
Pete and Jim dressed to impress on their big day, with a smart-casual style that suited Manor Barns and the beautiful summer weather perfectly.
"Jim and I wore waistcoats from Hammond & Co. We wanted to look similar but not the same, so the tweed style really helped us look the part," says Pete. "We had matching shirts by Charles Tyrwhitt and we finished off the look by both wearing knitted ties; mine in deep red and Jim's in burnt orange. We knew the look we wanted and it was just a case of shopping around until we found it, which luckily didn't take too long!"
To add a sentimental touch to their outfits the happy couple each wore an item that had been passed down from family members.
"I wore a pocket watch from my late Grandfather with a chain that was my great-great-grandfathers. It was a really nice touch as my Granddad only passed away a short while ago, so it was nice for him to feature in the day. Jim also carried a pocket watch that belonged to his late Grandfather. It was broken for a long time and nobody could fix it, then, purely by chance a few days before the wedding, Jim got it working again himself. It was clearly meant to be!
In total, the two dapper gents had 11 groomsmen and groomsmaids accompanying them on their special day, and they all looked amazing in white shirts, tan trousers and purple knitted ties, and grey multiway dresses respectively.
A Day To Remember
The couple had an incredible day full of memories at this delightful wedding venue in Norfolk. With an exquisite ceremony in the Great Barn, a drinks reception in the charming gardens and a fun-filled party in the evening, it's safe to say that a great time was had by all. There were a few moments that definitely stood out, however.
"We felt uncomfortable with the idea of doing a first dance as it is just not us," explains Pete. "Instead, we made a video which showed pictures of Jim and me growing up and throughout our relationship. People were laughing and crying in equal measure but the video ended with an invite for everyone to come and join us on the dancefloor…'House of Fun' by Madness kicked in and the party started!"
"Another standout moment was when our photographer took us off into a field to get some awesome photos as the sun was setting," smiles Jim. "It was nice to be away from the madness for a little while, take in what had happened throughout the day and have a breather before getting back to the party."
If the happy couple could pass on any advice to those about to tie the knot, it would be this.
"Plan early! It makes the countdown to the wedding far less stressful and a lot more enjoyable. Also, make sure you take a moment away from everyone to take in what has happened on the day because it goes by so quickly!"
