Joanne and Scott were looking for an intimate country wedding venue in which to tie the knot, as well as an expert team to help them plan the perfect celebration. They found the setting of their dreams in Dodmoor House, a beautiful rural barn in Northamptonshire.
"We were looking for a venue which was large enough to accommodate our 70 guests, but small enough so that it still felt intimate," explains Joanne. "The barns gave the rustic edge we wanted for our wedding and the staff were so friendly and helpful when we first came to look around. You could really tell that they are experts at what they do and that we could trust the team to make our day perfect."
Making The Place Their Own
The happy couple loved the relaxed country feel that Dodmoor House had and wanted to let its natural beauty and charm stand out. They did add a few decorative touches and accents of colour, however, to bring some of their personality to the venue and make it theirs.
"We decorated the venue with lots of lanterns which we collected throughout our wedding planning. The candlelight really suited the place at that time of year," says Scott. "We didn't have a strict colour scheme but kept to typical autumn colours with our flowers. We added a few DIY decorations too such as chalkboard signs and a basket of blankets in the courtyard so that people could wrap up warm as they sat outside."
To continue the wonderful rustic country theme that the venue exudes, the couple decorated their tables with hessian table cloths, jam jar vases housing autumnal flowers, and delightful handmade place settings.
The Perfect Dress
Joanne had a rough idea of what kind of dress she was looking for, and after a bit of research came across designer Catherine Deane. Her style really appealed to the bride-to-be and finding the ideal dress proved to be much easier than she could have imagined.
"I ended up buying the first dress I tried on because it was perfect!" smiles Joanne. "The dress was a beautiful, simple dress which I bought in Weedon, just down the road from Dodmoor House. I added a beaded belt to the dress and my shoes were actually my ‘something old' from when I was my friend's bridesmaid.
Scott opted something for a little different than the norm and looked truly stylish, with a brown tweed three-piece suit and orange tie, while the groomsmen wore navy suits with burgundy ties.
"I had three bridesmaids who were beautiful burgundy dresses and one flower girl who wore a pretty gold embroidered dress," says Joanne. "They all looked amazing on the day!"
An Exquisite Location
With its two stunning barns, delightful courtyard and idyllic setting in the Northamptonshire countryside, it's easy to see why this wonderful venue is so highly sought-after. The happy couple tied the knot in the characterful Courtyard Barn, complete with authentic oak beams and plenty of natural light. After making the most of Dodmoor House's variety of stunning backdrops for their wedding photos, Joanne, Scott and their guests sat down in the breathtaking Catesby Barn for a mouth-watering wedding breakfast.
"We provided prosecco, beer and a delicious Winter Pimm's cocktail, which went down very well with our guests during the drinks reception," explains Scott. "We knew we wanted to keep the food simple and easy, and our caterers Portfolio provided just that. We had ham hock terrine to start, chicken with a sage sauce and, our personal favourite dessert, sticky toffee pudding. We also had light evening food of cheese and cold meat platters. All the food was delicious!
A Case Of Mistaken Wedding Venues
Joanne and Scott had a truly amazing wedding day and everything went according to plan, except for one important guest getting slightly lost on the way to the venue.
"Unfortunately Jo's grandma went to the wrong wedding venue!" says Joanne. "We didn't want to start without her, so our ceremony was slightly delayed. However, this meant that I got to spend a few more precious minutes with the bridesmaids and her dad before the ceremony, and Scott could get in a cheeky shot at the bar with his best men!"
