All About the Venue
With a list of three venues to see, Upwaltham Barns was the first that Stuart and Ian visited and the one they chose. ‘As soon as we arrived, we knew we didn’t need to see the others,’ says Stuart. ‘Everything about the set up, the look and feel, was what we wanted and we knew our guests would feel at home.’
Thoughts for the Day
The happy couple wanted to create a day that their guests would enjoy and talk about for years to come. ‘The aim was always to have fun!’ they smile. Without a specific theme in mind, blue was chosen for their suits so was the obvious colour to run with throughout the day. Bunting decorated the barn with table decorations following a design that was introduced on the Save the Date cards.
Looking the Part
Stuart and Ian found elegant blue suits from Next, in a fabric that seemed to change in hue depending on the light. While they wore the same style of suit, tan shoes and burnt yellow ties, Ian wore a traditional tie while Stuart chose a bow tie. The beautiful ‘groomsmaids’ wore lovely blue dresses from ASOS and accessorised with Pandora bracelets - a gift from Stuart and Ian.
The handsome grooms and their ushers wore buttonholes while the groomsmaids carried hand held posies. The floral theme continued in to the barn with co-ordinating flowers in jam jars on the tables.
Time to Celebrate
Following a drinks reception in the courtyard with some delicious canapés and flowing Prosecco, guests enjoyed a fabulous afternoon tea. An array of sandwiches were served alongside sausage rolls and pork pies before the cakes arrived. Lemon drizzle, mini Victoria sponge, chocolate eclairs and scones with jam and cream were a real treat for the tastebuds!
The party started with live music from The Hotrocks and, when it came to evening dining, what could possibly be better than a fish and chip van!
The atmosphere and comments from our guests really made us feel we had achieved the day we wanted. Planning ahead and a thorough spreadsheet definitely helped. We did all our preparations in advance with no last minute surprises!’
