The Beauty of May Wedding Flowers

“For those loving scent the sweet peas are just starting along with stocks, freesia, lily of the valley, I always feel a scented bouquet is something a bride will remember forever,” says Joanne.

“We all know how scent can instantly transport you to a moment in time or particular memory. So the thought of maybe growing your own sweet peas to transport you back to your wedding day each year seems particularly endearing to my mind.”

“Other top choices for me include the Icelandic Poppies. So soft and delicate, they give bouquets movement and the trend for softer relaxed styled bouquets is set to continue this year.”

Seasonal Wedding Flowers

Of course, there’s also so much more available when it comes to wedding flowers in May too. Joanne suggest taking a look at some different, yet seasonal, blooms to give your wedding a real sense of spring:

“Don’t forget that foxgloves, iris, lupins, orlaya, scaboious (perhaps the ugliest name for the loveliest flower!) and cow parlsey are all getting their thing on in May too.”

The Best Floral Ideas For May Weddings

As you might imagine, with such beautiful flowers available for your May wedding, there’s a lot of choice for bouquets and buttonholes as Joanne explains:

“Bridal bouquets are becoming wider, with a slightly wilder naturalistic shape. Buttonholes have more elements to them, mini bouquets if you like, and I do a variety of styles, including the traditionally fully wired or the more casual open stemmed versions simply wrapped with ribbon.”

For impressive decorations, Joanne recommends some large, eye-catching arrangements:

“Go for arches filled with branches of beech, spirea, tree ivy mixed with May flowers with asymmetrical designs are also hugely popular. May - a huge wealth of flowery choice and two bank holidays so it’s always going to be a winner!”
