September wedding flowers

We’ll say it right now – we love autumn wedding flowers. We all know that there are plenty of seasonal wedding flowers available in spring and summer (swoon!) but you might be surprised by the brilliance of autumn. Rebecca tells us more:

“September brings the delightful late Summer Hydrangea, which start to show a green tinge on the petals. You can also take your pick from Achillea, Alstromeria, Astilbe, Dahlias, September Flower (Asters), Cosmos, Gladioli, Delphiniums and Echinops are also lovely this time of year. Lisianthus, Solidago, Sedum and Sunflowers are also at their peak.”

Seasonal wedding flowers for September

Seasonal flowers work so well for weddings. Not only do they just suit the time of year so well, they really give a sense of natural, organic beauty to your big day. From a practical perspective, using seasonal blooms can mean that your floral budget goes further, especially if your florist can choose what gives best value when they visit the flower market before your wedding.

When it comes to September wedding flowers, don’t worry – there are still lots of home-grown varieties available at this time of year as Rebecca explains:

“September is an excellent month for British flowers! Take your pick from decadent yet delicate Chocolate Cosmos, dainty Daisy September Flower, masculine structural Gladioli, luxurious Delphiniums. Sedum is one of my favourites as we head into Autumn. Of course, Hydrangea are always fabulous for big impact and the colours are incredible at this time of year.”

Advice and inspiration for autumn wedding flowers

Choosing your wedding colour palette is a big decision and it’s great to select colours that work with your venue and the time of year. However, there’s more to autumn wedding flowers than you might think:

“I love yellows and blues - striking Delphiniums with big bold Sunflowers!” says Rebecca. “September is quite a safe flower month. It isn’t super hot but we haven’t yet hit those colder months. Colours you’ll find easily are yellows, blues and reds. Although, again, you aren’t really limited so let your imagination run wild!”

“Take advantage of the season - ask your florist to try to source British flowers but when planning your look, decide where you’d like flowers, choose colours but try to be relaxed about varieties of flowers - give your florist a palette and perhaps a mood board/Pinterest board for inspiration and let them do the rest!”
