Wedding photography is such an important part of your big day and those wonderful images will remind you of your amazing wedding for the rest of your life. You don’t want to miss out on any essentials shots, so here’s our guide to the wedding photographs that you’ll regret not taking.

To make sure that you get the photos that you want, it’s super important that you speak to your wedding photographer. These guys are total wedding pros and will understand instinctively what to capture but if there’s something important to you, they need to know. If a friend is coming over from the States to be with you or there’s a detail that’s particularly meaningful, point it out to your photographer. If you want a group photo with your university netball team, tell your photographer so they can add it to their list. And, speaking of lists, here are a few more photos that you might want to add…

Wedding photography on the morning of the wedding

OK, so let’s start at the beginning and think about the morning of your wedding. It can be a busy time for sure but it’s an essential part of your wedding day story so avoid any wedding regrets by making sure you get these photos:

With your bridesmaids – it goes without saying that you need LOTS of photos with your girl squad.

Hair and makeup – how often do you have a pro pamper you? Not very often so make sure this is captured.

Dress hanging up – the iconic shot of your wedding gown hanging up is an absolute must-have.

Morning-of moments – whether you’re opening a gift from your partner, laughing with your friends or shedding an emotional tear, give your photographer freedom to capture it all.

Getting into your dress – a photo of your dress being done up is the most flattering option here.

Reactions – the moment when your Mum, Dad or bridesmaids see you completely ready for the first time is unmissable.

Waist down – this timeless shot captures your dress, your bouquet and focuses on your bridal ensemble.

A first look – first look photos are SO popular and with good reason. Those few moments with your partner before the ceremony are the most intimate of all.

Family, friends and all the details

Again, your wedding photographer will have a standard shot list here and their eye for detail means that most things will be captured. However, there are few wedding photos that you should ensure are taken:

Grandparents – not in a group shot, not sat on their own, just with you and/or your partner. Make them feel special because they’ll be bursting with pride.

The big group – getting everyone together can be tricky but trust us, it’s worth it.

Brothers and sisters – you might have fought like crazy when you were younger but these photos are super special.

Your stationery – bring an invitation, save the date and RSVP card along with you so your photographer can capture your entire stationery suite.

A place setting – if you’re spent a long time planning the look of your wedding tables, you’ll want this for sure. Also, remember that as you’re often announced into dinner after your guests have taken their seats, this is your chance to see your tables without guests!

Your venue – you’ll have chosen your venue for hundreds of reasons. If you fell for the view, the gardens or the fab interiors, ask for these to be photographed.

Meaningful details – anything that means something to you needs to be captured. It could be old family photos, an heirloom brooch or a quote from your favourite book. If it’s important to you, tell your photographer.

Golden hour – this beautiful hour, full of soft romantic light, is the perfect time for photos with your partner. Even if it falls during your wedding breakfast, make some time to sneak out for photos.

Dad dancing – whether it’s hilarious or touching, don’t let Dad go unrecorded.
