After a romantic proposal featuring a Love Heart sweet with the words ‘Marry Me’, Guy and Mark began searching for their dream wedding venue in Essex. They wanted somewhere with great outdoor space where the children at the wedding could run around and have some fun. Hearing about Gaynes Park through a friend, they decided to take a look.
“Guy’s dad used to be a gardener and the gardens at Gaynes Park are stunning,” says Mark. “We loved the rustic beauty of the Mill Barn and the convenience of having our wedding and reception all in one place. We chose an October date as autumn is our favourite time of year!”
Design and Décor
Working with the elegance of Gaynes Park, when it came to décor, Guy and Mark added their own personalised touches. Family photographs featured in the Orangery and the Mill Barn, alongside beautiful table centrepieces made by a family member. Lego and superheroes were also introduced with Lego keyring favours and superhero table names!
The delicious wedding cake was adorned with sugar leaves in autumnal shades, bringing the outside in.
Opting for elegant, traditional dress, both Mark and Guy chose to wear morning suits, each choosing their own colours.
“I wore a black tail coat with gold waistcoat and burgundy cravat while Guy wore a navy tail coat with silver waistcoat and purple cravat,” explains Mark.
All the gentlemen in the grooms’ party wore silver Lego block cufflinks and buttonholes featuring Lego superheroes. Meanwhile, the ladies were given floral sprays, also featuring Lego superheroes.
Following their romantic ceremony in the Orangery, the newlyweds celebrated with a drinks reception outside the Orangery. When it came to the wedding breakfast, marrying on a Sunday, the happy couple chose to serve a traditional Sunday roast.
“Since it’s difficult to please everyone, we decoded on a trio of desserts,” says Mark. “This included lemon meringue pie, raspberry cheesecake and a chocolate torte.”
After the cutting of the cake, the curtains were drawn to reveal a fabulous performance by The Jersey Guys, a tribute to The Jersey Boys.
“This was a total surprise for everyone,” smiles Mark. “We had our first dance to ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’.”
Following the performance, a DJ entertained the guests for the finale of this memorable day.
“Seeing my future husband walking through the gardens towards me!”
And finally… any top tips?
“Plan, plan, plan! We were able to enjoy the day because everything was so well organised and planned to the finite detail. Communication between your suppliers and the venue is key.”
