When they started to plan their June wedding, Joanna and Katy were looking for a venue where they could relax in the knowledge that everything was taken care of. They found the perfect place in Rivervale Barn, a breathtaking barn wedding venue in Hampshire complete with stunning beams and idyllic gardens.
“We knew we wanted a barn and, when we looked around Rivervale Barn, we immediately felt that we were in good hands,” explains Joanna. “We loved the grounds and the fact that everything was in one place.”
Dressing the venue
With a countryside venue and a summer wedding date, Joanna and Katy embraced a rustic style for their day. Their primary colour was mint green and they combined it with baby pink and pastel yellow. They placed wicker hearts and Mason jars throughout the venue as well as wooden hearts on the tables and a mint green birdcage for guest’s cards. As for the flowers, delicate white gypsophila combined with pink and yellow blooms brought a soft and natural touch to the décor.
“We wanted laughter to resonate around the room and for guests to mingle both inside and out,” says Joanna. “It was important to us that everyone was well fed and watered and really enjoy themselves!”
Looking the part
Joanna wore ‘Lustre’ by Olivia Grace, a strapless gown with sweetheart neckline and beaded bodice.
“I went dress shopping with two of my bridesmaids and my best man and asked them each to select a dress for me to try on,” she smiles. “The dress I loved was chosen by my maid of honour.” A sparkly veil, necklace and earrings were the perfect accessories.
Katy’s stunning gown was by Ella Rose - a lace design with plunging V-back and diamante straps. She also wore a beaded veil to complete her look.
The happy couple were accompanied by no less than ten bridesmaids and five groomsmen, all wearing outfits to suit the style of the day.
“Our bridesmaids wore long dresses, with our maids of honour in mint green, four bridesmaids in baby pink and four in pastel yellow,” explains Joanna. The groomsmen wore pale grey three-piece suits from Moss Bros with mint green ties and white rose buttonholes.
Wining and dining
Following the civil ceremony, guests enjoyed delicious drinks and canapés before moving into the Dining Barn for their wedding breakfast. Joanna is half Spanish, so the chef at Rivervale created an antipasti starter with Spanish meats and cheeses alongside a selection of dips and stuffed peppers. A main course of fillet of beef followed, with a glazed lemon tart for pudding.
“We loved all three courses and have had many guests commenting on how good they all were!’ says Joanna. In the evening, the mouth-watering food continued with wood-fired pizzas cooked to order and served out in the picturesque courtyard.
The perfect day
After spending all day and night celebrating their wedding, Joanna and Katy had absolutely no regrets! Their wedding was full of fun, love and, in particular, laughter…
“When we were doing our first dance, our two dresses kept getting wrapped around each other so we had to constantly kick them out of the way. This caused lots of laughs!”
If there is any advice that Joanna could pass on it would be this:
“Don’t get too stressed by the little things! Chances are, the guests aren’t going to notice if one ribbon is a different colour from the others, or if one bridesmaid is wearing different shoes! Also, enjoy the planning. Take time to go to shows and discuss all your ideas with your partner and have fun with it!”
