Choosing a wonderful Warwickshire wedding venue for their special day, Katherine and Matthew’s August wedding at Blackwell Grange was sure to delight. With garden games, sunshine and an exquisite menu, this was a celebration to remember.
Setting The Scene
Dreaming of a summer wedding, Katherine and Matthew wanted to find a venue where they had never been to a wedding before. Looking online, they came across Cotswold venue, Blackwell Grange and booked an appointment.
“The venue was still under construction so we knew we would have to use our imagination,” smiles Katherine. “The Thatch Barn had no roof and the Orchard Barn had only a metre high wall! We were so inspired by Didi’s vision, we just knew it was going to be beautiful.”
The happy couple wanted to create a simple, elegant, understated style and ensure the day was relaxed with just a little glamour. A shade of merlot was chosen for the colour scheme.
“We originally chose peach but it didn’t suit my bridesmaid’s skin colouring,” says Katherine. “She then tried on a dress in merlot as she liked the style but we all ended up loving the colour! It looked beautiful in different lights.”
David Austin roses adorned the venue and Matthew and Katherine added a few personal touches. Katherine even made and designed the stationery herself while a friend made a wedding card box.
Katherine originally had her heart set on a lace gown and tried on a number of styles to no avail. She eventually found the perfect dress by Mikaella Bridal in the White Boutique in Leamington Spa.
“The lady at the White Boutique suggested a very different style of dress which looked too plain to me,” explains Katherine. “When I walked out of the changing room, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was! It suited my figure perfectly and was simple, elegant and understated – a classic dress with a bit of sparkle!”
The beautiful bride accessorised with a full-length cathedral veil and a hair vine. Following tradition, her grandmother’s sapphire engagement ring was worn as her ‘something blue’ and ‘something borrowed.
Meanwhile, Katherine’s bridesmaid wore a beautiful Dessy dress in the chosen shade of Ruby.
Order of the Day
Katherine and Matthew married in the romantic Thatch Barn, before moving on to the contemporary Orchard Barn for their wedding breakfast.
“I loved the idea of moving from your ‘old life’ in the old barn to your ‘new life’ in the new barn,” smiles Katherine.
With the sun shining, they took advantage of the weather and held their drinks reception outside the Orchard Barn, enjoying Pimm’s, beer and elderflower sparklers alongside delicious canapés. The wedding breakfast saw a starter of bruschetta followed by roast rib of beef and to finish… decadent dessert canapés.
“Each table received a joint of beef with a nominated person to carve,” says Katherine, “and the dessert canapés were served in the garden while our guests played garden games.”
As day turned to evening, the newlyweds danced their first dance to ‘Sweetest Devotion’ by Adele and delicious wood-fired pizza was served to their guests. A fabulous Bellini bar meant they could also ‘pimp’ their Prosecco by adding a selection of fruit purees.
“The events team were so helpful,” smiles Katherine. “Everything ran so smoothly, I didn’t have to worry about a thing.”
Katherine’s top wedding tip:
“Make lists and let your family know the plans so they feel at ease. Try to keep calm on the day and make sure you have breakfast – it’s a long day!”
