We admit it – we LOVE autumn weddings. There’s something very special about this time of year and it’s a great season for a wedding. We can’t get enough of the colours and everything else that you can include in an autumn wedding theme. Autumn has never looked so good!
1. Autumn colours
Let’s start with your autumnal colour palette and the choices are endless. Think autumn leaves and earthy tones or rich colours inspired by seasonal fruits and berries. Play with organic shades and natural hues for your autumn wedding and don’t be afraid to go bold with oranges, purples and greens. Alternatively, ‘natural neutrals’ are another great palette if you’d prefer a softer, romantic look.

2. Autumn leaves
If spring and summer are all about petals, autumn has to be about leaves. Line your aisle with scattered leaves, use them for seasonal place cards or use a hole punch to make your own autumnal confetti. We also love seeing leaves in bouquets, buttonholes and centrepieces too.
3. Autumn treats
When you’re planning treats for your guests, take your inspiration from the season. How about delicious toffee apples as wedding favours or slices of homemade toffee apple flapjacks as ‘goodnight gifts’ for your friends and family?
4. Autumn feasts
Autumn is definitely a time for feasting! How about rich roasts served family style to the table? Fruity pies and crumbles with custard make delicious desserts and don’t forget a selection of hearty canapés such as soups, mini shepherd’s pies and fish and chips.
5. Autumn flowers
There are probably more flowers available in autumn that you might think! We love richly coloured hydrangeas, anemones and big blowsy dahlias. Don’t forget to add in some autumnal details such as berries, leaves, feathers and seed-heads.

6. Autumn receptions
The weather in autumn can be a little unpredictable! If you’ve chosen a venue with glorious space outdoors, make sure that your guests can use it. A basket of blankets or a selection of umbrellas will help everyone get outside, whatever the weather.
7. Autumn ceremonies
Create atmosphere at your autumn ceremony with candles (real or battery powered!). Nothing is more romantic than this soft light, so fill your ceremony room with candles if you can.

8. Autumn photos
As the sun sets earlier in the winter, it’s important to think about wedding photos, particularly if you want to get outside. Make sure that you schedule time for photos before it gets too dark and don’t forget to make the most of the glorious golden hour!

9. Autumn invitations
Choose a stationery suite that incorporates autumnal colours and seasonal details. We love watercolour invitations and hand-drawn styles, particularly those with botanical touches for this time of year.
10. Autumn lights
We’ve covered candles but fairy lights are also perfect for autumn weddings. These twinkling beauties bring extra light to your reception without being too bright or too harsh. String them around your venue, inside and out, to create a really special look that will be absolutely brilliant when the sun sets.
11. Autumn essentials
Pumpkins. Yes, an autumn wedding wouldn’t be an autumn wedding without a pumpkin or two. Whether your use traditional orange ones or mini white versions, pumpkins are essential. Use them for seating plans, place cards, wedding signage or even an alternative guest book!
