There are lots of fantastic new wedding trends about right now and we love seeing all the super cool things that our couples plan. One thing that’s being included in more weddings than ever this year is the trend of second-look bridesmaid dresses. This trend has made its way to the UK from the US and now, bridesmaids are changing into a different outfit (or second-look dress) once the formal parts of the wedding are over. We’re here to tell you all you need to know about this hot, and sometimes controversial, trend.

Second-look bridesmaid dresses
So, second-look bridesmaid dresses are definitely becoming a thing. Fuelled, like so many things in the wedding world, by social media and our friends in the US, this trend is starting to take hold. It’s not unknown for brides to change into another outfit for their evening reception but now, it’s the bridesmaids that are donning a new outfit for the party too.
As a bride, how do you feel about this? Would you be happy if your bridesmaids wanted to change out of their carefully-chosen bridesmaid dresses and into another party-ready outfit for the evening? Some brides want their maids to stay in their dress and others don’t mind and just want their friends to be comfortable and enjoy the celebrations wearing whatever makes them happy.

Or, if you’re a bridesmaid, what do you think about this trend? If you’ve had to buy one outfit for the wedding, how do you feel about potentially being asked to buy another? Or would you be happy to get out of your bridesmaid dress and into something more suitable for the dancefloor?
We know that being a bridesmaid is not cheap, whoever is paying for your dress, but actually, the second-look bridesmaid dress trend might be better news than you might think. Read on to find out why…

A wedding trend you might love
As a bridesmaid, it’s highly likely that you’re not going to be wearing your choice of outfit. Even if the bride lets you choose the style of dress you wear, you’ll probably be told what colour to go for or vice versa. This does mean that you could well be wearing a dress or outfit that’s not totally your choice.
Compare this with all the other female guests at the wedding wearing their fab outfits and it’s easy to see why some bridesmaids feel that however lovely it is to be asked to be a bridesmaid, you actually get the style short straw when you’re in the bridal party.

So, being given the chance to change out of your regulation bride tribe outfit is actually a good thing. Your wonderful friend, the bride who loves you, is essentially taking you ‘off duty’ and letting you kick back and just enjoy the party. No doubt you have your favourite killer outfit in your wardrobe so bring that along and there’s no need to buy another dress for the evening.
As a bride, why would you want your bridesmaids to change? Well, you want them to enjoy the day and let’s be honest, everyone is happiest when they’re wearing their choice of clothes. So, tell your best friends that if they want to change, they can. They can express themselves and bring their style to your evening reception, just like all your other guests. Letting them change also signals the end of their formal duties and allows them to enjoy the evening, just like all your other guests.

Ultimately, if it suits your day, the second-look bridesmaid dress is actually a trend that we can all get on board with. It doesn’t have to mean extra expense but it does mean that your bridesmaids, the friends that you love the most in the world, can really enjoy celebrating with you and what more could you want for your day?
